Zambia Police heightens security in Kasama

The Zambia Police Service in Northern Province has heightened security operations in Kasama District in response to growing public concern over criminal activities and disorderly behavior in the area.

‎Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkhondya, has assured residents that law enforcement agencies are actively addressing the situation.

‎She explains that the police are taking decisive steps to restore peace and security in the area.

‎“We are aware of the concerns raised by members of the public and are taking decisive steps to restore peace and security in all affected areas,” Ms Munkhondya inidcates.

‎She has further disclosed that police have intensified both foot and motorised patrols across the Central Business District, residential zones, and known hotspots, particularly after 18:00 hours.

‎”Special operations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals involved in violent crimes, drug-related offenses, and other illegal activities,” Ms Munkhondya adds.

‎In a statement issued to in Kasama today, Ms Munkhondya ‎issued a warning to those that would be found engaging in such acts, that they will face the full force of the law.

‎She added that the police are also working closely with community leaders, business owners, and residents to reinforce neighbourhood watch programmes, and has urged citizens to report any suspicious behaviour promptly to the nearest police station or through the provided emergency hotlines.

‎”In a targeted advisory, taxi drivers have been cautioned to remain vigilant during late hours. Authorities recommend avoiding the pickup of more than two male passengers at a time, especially during odd hours, to ensure both driver and passenger safety,” Ms Munkhondya stated.

She has assured that despite safety concerns, the district remains safe.

Kasama District has been recording growing concerns from members of the public who have witnessed attacks from some unruly youths commonly known as ‘junkies’.
