Smart Zambia, World Bank to implement Digital Public Infrastructure

Smart Zambia in collaboration with the World Bank is set to implement Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that will harness the potential of digital transformation, enhance service delivery, and foster economic growth.

Smart Zambia Government Chief Technical Officer, Kasali Musenge, has emphasised the need to develop a robust digital public infrastructure that ensures secured payments, seamless data exchange, and efficient service delivery.

The media reports that Ms Musenge was speaking at the opening of the Digital Public Infrastructure and Integrated Service Delivery Design Lab Workshop in Livingstone.

Ms Musenge also highlighted some of the challenges that the workshop seeks to address, which includes the implementation of digital public infrastructure and ensuring the security of digital payments.

“The workshop is part of the Digital Zambia Acceleration Project, which is aligned with the government’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance public service delivery and drive economic progress,” she said.

World Bank Practice Manager under Digital Government, Stela Mocan, emphasised the need for government to invest in digital platforms.

Ms Mocan highlighted the pressing need for governments to invest in digital platforms, citing that digital investments would not only save time and money but also ensure the efficient use of government funds.

“Digital platforms can streamline processes, reduce bureaucracy, and improve citizen engagement, ultimately leading to better governance and economic outcomes,” Ms Mocan added.

Meanwhile, World Bank Senior Digital Specialist, Paul Ndungutse, revealed that the World Bank invested 100 million US Dollars in the (DZAP) project.

Mr Ndungutse indicated that the project has three components which includes the expansion of digital infrastructure, scaling up digital ideas, payments, data sharing and investing in digital literacy.

The workshop has attracted stakeholders from government, private sector, civil society, and development partners to co-create inclusive service delivery models and institutional pathways for digital transformation.
