A team from the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment is in North-Western Province to conduct an environmental impact assessment ahead of the rollout of the 100 million United States dollar Zambia Green Resilient Transformational and Tourism Development Project (GREAT TDP).
Speaking when the team paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Col. Grandson Katambi (Rtd), team leader Progress Nyanga said the assessment aims to identify environmental, climate change and carbon-trade-related gaps.
Dr. Nyanga said the findings will help design tailor-made training programmes for staff and stakeholders involved in the implementation of the project.
He added that the delegation will meet Heads of Departments from relevant ministries and will visit Ikelenge District, one of the designated project sites.
Meanwhile, Col. Katambi reaffirmed government’s commitment to balancing development with environmental sustainability.
Col. Katambi welcomed the selection of Ikelenge District for the project and pledged full support from the provincial administration.
He emphasised the need to engage community leaders and other local stakeholders to encourage the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices.
The media reports that the GREAT TDP, financed by the World Bank, will be implemented in North-Western, Northern and Western provinces as part of government efforts to strengthen climate resilience, environmental management and sustainable tourism development.
