Government has paid more than 6,813 of the 20,867 farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Mbala District.
Mbala District Agriculture Coordinator (DACO) Moses Mulenga confirmed the development, disclosing that officers are working diligently to ensure that the remaining farmers receive their payments as soon as possible.
“Out of 20,867 farmers, 6,813 have already been paid. Government is committed to clearing all outstanding payments and is doing everything possible to ensure everyone is settled,” Mr. Mulenga said.
Mr Mulenga also urged farmers to remain patient as the process continues.
Greatson Sikafunda, a farmer, expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts.
“We are grateful for the progress made. The Ministry of Agriculture and the banks handling FRA payments have been working well to ensure farmers receive their money,” he said.
Mr Sikafunda appealed to banks to consider depositing payments directly into the accounts of farmers who already have bank accounts, noting that this would help speed up the process.
