All PF Members Must Participate in General Conference – Mwila

Former Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Mwila has said all party members, regardless of factional affiliation, must be allowed to participate in the forthcoming general conference.

Mr Mwila said the ongoing suspensions and removals of party officials were unconstitutional and could weaken the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He said the PF constitution provides that when there is a vacancy in the office of party president, a general conference must be convened in accordance with Article 52 to elect a substantive leader. Mr Mwila explained that during such a transitional period, all suspensions should be lifted to allow members to freely participate in the election process.

He said it was concerning that instead of preparing for a general conference, some party members were being suspended or removed from their positions.

Mr Mwila warned that with limited time remaining before the next general elections, the party could not afford internal divisions.

He said all members, regardless of their political camps or factions, should be allowed to participate in the general conference and contest leadership positions without fear of victimisation.

Commenting on the formation of campaign committees by the camp led by Brian Mundubile, Mr Mwila said such mobilisation was a normal political activity ahead of a general conference.

He said that once a new party president is elected, whether Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu or Given Lubinda, all campaign structures would be dissolved and the party would move forward as one.

Mr Mwila appealed to the party’s leadership to withdraw suspension letters that have reportedly been issued to about 10 members and to reinstate officials who have been removed from their positions.

He said lifting suspensions and reinstating officials would help the party heal and unite ahead of the elections.

Mr Mwila added that once the PF elects a substantive president, the party would be better positioned to reorganise, unite its membership and chart a clear path forward.
