Government will construct two roads at a cost of over K1.6 billion in Mpika district, Muchinga province.
The 80 kilometer Mpika- Katibunga via Chief Mukungule is estimated to cost K826 million while K815 million is budgeted for upgrading the Lufila- Kakoko road.
Both roads will be constructed and upgraded to bituminous standards.
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi disclosed this in parliament today.
Mr Milupi stressed that a good road network is vital to accelerating national development in the country.
“We will spend significant sums of money to undertake projects that were put on hold by the previous Patriotic Front (PF) regime. There is no canceled project,” he said.
He assured that road projects that stalled as far as the year 2020 will be worked on.
Mr Milupi said his ministry is aware of the dilapidated road infrastructure in some parts of the country and stated that the delay to complete the road works has been hampered by the resources.
The media reports that Mr Milupi was responding to a question raised by PF Mpika Member of Parliament, Francis Kapyanga, who wanted to find out whether government has any plans to construct the Mpika/Katibunga/Mukungule and the Lufila/Kakoko roads.

Perhaps elections should be held every year. Then places like Mpika will have tarmac roads 365 days!
Very tulu. We all know that politicians only think of us in election year. That’s when they try to share with us what they stole for the previous 4 years.
