Zulu, who lost the Lumezi seat after being jailed in May last year, said he intends to challenge Haimbe in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking through a TV interview, the 38-year-old said his decision to contest the Lusaka Central seat is partly aimed at challenging the incumbent.
“It’s a confirmation that I will be vying for the Lusaka Central seat to challenge Mulambo Haimbe in particular, for so many reasons I cannot explain,” Zulu said.
With less than six months before the general elections, Zulu said he plans to launch his campaign in the coming days.
“I will be launching my campaign for Lusaka Central in the next few days because Lumezi gave it to me. I have never lost an election. They grabbed it from me, so now I want to go for Mulambo Haimbe and teach him politics,” he said.
In the 2021 general elections, Zulu contested the Lumezi parliamentary seat as an independent candidate and won with 11,929 votes. Patriotic Front candidate Pilila Jere received 10,471 votes, while United Party for National Development candidate Macdonald Phiri came third with 4,386 votes.
Zulu was released from prison on Saturday after serving an 18-month sentence for seditious practices and criminal libel. The charges stemmed from statements he made in which he accused senior government officials and judges of corruption.
