A faction inside the Patriotic Front aligned to acting party president Given Lubinda has begun organising a political platform known as the Tiyende Pamodzi alliance, signalling a new stage in the party’s internal power struggle.
The initiative places Lubinda’s supporters at the centre of an emerging effort to consolidate political influence within the Patriotic Front as different camps position themselves ahead of the party’s general conference and the national election.
Lubinda currently serves as acting president of the Patriotic Front, giving him authority over key party structures at a time when internal divisions remain visible. His name also features prominently among figures expected to compete for the party’s presidential nomination.
The emergence of the Tiyende Pamodzi alliance reflects the depth of the internal contest now unfolding inside the party. Rival factions have been manoeuvring for control as the Patriotic Front attempts to reorganise after losing government in 2021.
Former PF secretary general Mumbi Phiri has indicated that the party still has time to organise itself before the election scheduled for August 13. Her remarks point to growing pressure within the party to rebuild political momentum and present a united campaign structure.
Phiri has also raised questions about competing claims of political leadership among some opposition groups, arguing that confusion around alliances and endorsements risks weakening the party’s organisational strength.
Meanwhile, PF media director Edwin Lifwekelo says the party will announce its presidential candidate once a general conference is held. The conference will determine the leadership structure that will guide the Patriotic Front into the next election.
Lifwekelo identified Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and Chishimba Kambwili among the figures widely seen as possible contenders for the presidency alongside Lubinda. The presence of several prominent figures in the race has intensified internal political competition.
Within that environment, Lubinda’s allies have moved to promote the Tiyende Pamodzi alliance as a political vehicle capable of consolidating supporters and strengthening organisational networks.
The alliance concept centres on mobilising party members and building a coordinated structure that could strengthen the faction’s influence ahead of the party’s internal conference.
Sources within the party say Lubinda’s faction has begun recruiting individuals from smaller political parties as part of efforts to broaden the alliance’s base. The move reflects an attempt to expand political support beyond the Patriotic Front’s existing structures.
The alliance proposal also represents a response to perceptions among some members that Lubinda’s influence weakened following the party’s defeat in the last general election. Supporters believe the new platform can help rebuild political momentum.
Phiri has suggested that Lubinda’s faction is attempting to reposition itself within the party through the alliance initiative. The effort involves bringing together supporters and political actors who remain aligned with Lubinda’s leadership.
Internal tensions within the Patriotic Front have continued to surface as leaders compete to shape the party’s future direction. The leadership contest has drawn national attention because of the Patriotic Front’s role as one of the country’s major opposition parties.
The proposed alliance therefore forms part of a broader struggle over how the party should reorganise and present itself to voters. Different factions are working to consolidate influence while preparing for the party’s leadership conference.
The Tiyende Pamodzi alliance initiative illustrates how Lubinda’s supporters intend to assert themselves within that contest. By building a coordinated platform around his leadership, the faction is positioning itself for the next stage of the party’s internal political battle.

Hi Lifwekelo, welcome back. Just to let you know that Mundubile is not part of PF but belongs to the defunct Tonse. So just to correct you, the contenders are Lubinda, Kambwili and Makebi
Kambwili???? Kikikikikikiki! Elyo Bola yalula nomba.
And Lusambo?? Don’t waste time with Kambwili Just ban him. Psst…Try recruiting Gary Nkombo and Sylvia
The best person for PF Presidency is Given Lubinda. Love him or hate him, the man is just dedicated, level headed and smart.
And with evident failure by the current, Given would have it easy
Kikikiki, mutule.
Lubunda has to go for the opposition to survive
A leopard can never change its spot PF must bring in new useful and youthful educated individuals
archaic ideas dont work
Very true. Have a strategy. There will be new constituencies. Have an investigative wing to dig out ghost voters. Sampa can head it. People aren’t happy with plenty of stuff like high prices and fat politicians.
Perhaps you Tikki should contact Lubinda with your fresh ideas. Tell them to recruit Sangwa as well. Even that lazy Kalaba
The greatest thing above is that Lubinda will never be president and also PF is done. Remember UNIP and MMD.
The party is disintegrating because of SELFISHNESS. Jostling for plot 1 instead of rallying behind ONE candidate.
Wow a faction within a faction. Then there will be another faction within this new faction and so forth. Soon we will have nothing but factions all competing for one post.
Interesting very interesting, Tiyende pamodzi dounds good though.
I’m always curious to see how PF will get out of this rubble.

Alliances, can someone unpack this new political phenomenon in Zambia?
Field Ruwe instead of analyzing Mutubila tell us why Zedian politicians seem to think the vehicle to power is Alliances.
Mutubila, don’t be silent, you were an ambassador so explain to us why Alliances will work or fail in August.
My family and friends will never vote for the well known thieves back in office.
