Hichilema orders arrests over Kalumbila mob killing

President Hakainde Hichilema has ordered the arrest of individuals involved in the killing of a woman in Kalumbila, placing the case under urgent national attention.

The directive follows the death of Eneless Kamutumbe, 46, who was attacked by a mob after being accused of causing the disappearance of a man’s private parts. Authorities say the incident occurred during a business trip, with the victim targeted by a group acting on suspicion rather than verified evidence.

Government statements across multiple reports confirm that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to identify and prosecute all those involved. The Head of State stated that no individual has the right to take another person’s life and that grievances must be handled through lawful channels.

Police details indicate that the attack was carried out by a crowd, largely made up of young people, raising concern about social influences behind such actions. Officials described the killing as an act of extrajudicial violence, with authorities warning that such conduct will be treated as a serious criminal offence.

The case has drawn wide public attention, with authorities moving to reinforce the role of formal justice systems. Government messaging emphasises that suspected crimes must be reported to police rather than addressed through mob action, as institutions remain responsible for investigation and prosecution.

Parallel reporting shows that the incident forms part of a broader pattern of mob-related violence in parts of the country, often linked to accusations rooted in superstition or misinformation. Officials have indicated that stronger enforcement and public awareness will be required to address such incidents.

The response also highlights coordination between State House and law enforcement structures, with expectations that investigations will proceed quickly. Authorities have stressed that accountability will extend to all individuals involved, regardless of their role in the incident.

At the same time, the development has prompted calls for stronger community-level engagement to prevent similar cases. Public messaging has focused on the need to reinforce legal processes, civic responsibility, and respect for life.

The incident comes at a time when government has been emphasising law and order as a central pillar of governance, with leadership statements reinforcing the importance of institutional authority. Officials have reiterated that acts of mob violence undermine both justice systems and national cohesion.

Reports further indicate that the case has become a reference point in discussions around youth behaviour, community policing, and social responsibility. Authorities have called on families and local leaders to play a role in preventing such incidents by promoting lawful conduct.

Investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement expected to provide further updates as suspects are identified and brought before the courts.

Editors Note: “All individuals responsible must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, with no impunity

That is the results of having a public that believes in a primitive practice of….……

    Witchcraft…….

It’s telling that only backward 3rd world countries believe in witchcraft…….

There is no developed country that believes in witchcraft, even amongst emerging economies ……….let that statistic sink in.

Schools need to be taught that witchcraft is a false retrogressive practice……

Instead of thinking up development strategies, they are busy thinking of juju

    • @Spaka
Didn’t you wanna say: “That is the result of having a president that believes in the primitive practice of…” ?

  2. He who, according to his loud UPND surrogates, is never involved in ordering police to arrest anyone-including Mundubile.
These cares include Mweetwa, Spaka and plenty bloggers

    • The Zanbian Police operate autonomously; if you commit a crime or are perceived as a suspect, they will apprehend and interrogate you. Zambia is a nation governed by the rule of law. We do not require any disruptions from anarchists.

  3. LT; the Editor doesn’t have to give us his urging of any government official after a news item. It’s unprofessional professional.
Opinions are reserved for editorials. Ask Field Ruwe.

    • @Kalemba…Nice one! I see this a lot in Zambian radio stations. Presenters giving you a story and opining on it. Sad!

  4. kikiki Since the president has made a statement on this Please can he do the same on the ecl debacle
It is he alone who can bring this to an end

    • Zambia is a Republic that operates under the rule of law; therefore, the matter concerning Lungu is a dispute between the government and the family. This issue is currently in court, and according to the law, one must not interfere with a case that is pending in court. The family has already chosen to withdraw this case because the ruling made by the South African courts was not in their favor. We should refrain from involving the president in matters that are being addressed by the government.

  5. I am not sure what is wrong with this province. This is the same province they killed PF provincial chairman Jackson Kungo in Solwezi, in cold blood, during the 2021 elections in the same manner they have killed this lady. And I don’t remember of any arrests or any body calling for arrests. It is the same province with very vulgar and threatening language where you had the UPND youths who said they would circumcise ECL and who have never been arrested todate.

  6. @Mulwanda, In case you don’t know, All police and prison cells in Zed are reserved for opposition politicians.
It’s written somewhere in bill 27

    • Stop drinking alcohol and smoking.Sober up.You are In the USA, yet still lacking wisdom.
There are so many existing reputable educational institutions that can help you on how to think critically.
Identify a single inmate who has never faced a court and has been incarcerated without any charges.
      Refrain from dishonesty.

  7. Right, the President had to issue an order. There was a fight in Kanyama last night, I am asking if the president can order an arrest on the fighters. Perhaps he is too busy ordering this arrest and the arrest of Mundubile as well as the encircling of Makeni Zulus’s house during an online election.
I apologize, the President never issues orders even though he says he ordered the arrest of Joe Malanji and ensured he went to jail.

    • Are you that stupid?Malanji is a significant criminal who has embezzled substantial public funds, and you do not perceive any issue with that. What type of educational institutions exist in Zambia? The majority of you seem to lack wisdom; you are not critical thinkers.

  8. And how about ordering the arrest of those Masala boys who did something similar a fortnight ago?

  9. It is a mob killing, it is very difficult to arrest everyone involved without proper identification

    • @Chi, how? Look at how we are all bowed in prayer? How do you sell your soul in a christian nation?!?!
With all the prayers being loudly intoned EVERYWHERE(with no actual work being done since we wait for manna, hatred is the order of the day, imingalato…), the land of work and joy should be heaven on earth, no?
