Former Super League regular scorer Musole Sakulanda has hailed the scoring prowess displayed by Kenyan striker Moses Shumah at Power Dynamos.
Shumah has scored 21 times in the Super League this season to move Power closer to defending the league title.
Congolese Walter Bwalya was the last player in the Super League to score more than 19 goals when he netted 20 times in the 2017/18 season.
Last season’s joint top scorers Idris Mbombo and Titus Chansa scored 13 goals each.
Sakulanda, the Nkana legend, said Shumah has added value to the Super League with his impressive scoring form.
The retired Super League star striker said Shumah’s performance was challenging local strikers to up their game.
“I am also appreciating Moses Shumah’s performance,” Sakulanda said by phone from his base in Kitwe. “That is how a number nine must play, it is not about dribbling but scoring goals. That is the job of a striker,” he said.
With six matches left to play in the season for Power, it is not yet clear how many more goals Shumah would add to his tally.
“That man knows how to position himself. Remember how he scored a nice goal against us (Nkana). He caught our defenders sleeping with his speed,” he said.
Sakulanda noted that Zambian strikers are lacking mentorship on scoring techniques.
He said while many clubs have specific coaches for keepers and defenders very few clubs have invested in trainers for strikers.
“Look at the coaching benches for many clubs, there are no coaches for strikers. Let those who were strikers coach strikers. Look at many strikers in the league, they can’t even shoot from afar,” Sakulanda added.
Sakulanda was a regular scorer at Nkana and went on to play for Rops in Finland before retiring in 2003 in Wusakile.
