Kankoyo MP donates stone crusher to small scale miners

Kankoyo Member of Parliament, Heartson Mabeta, has donated a commercial stone crusher worth K18,000 to small-scale miners in his constituency to help mechanize mining activities.

The equipment is expected to spark a significant shift in the constituency, moving miners away from the grueling, labour intensive manual methods previously used to process silica and waste rock.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Mabeta noted that many livelihoods in Kankoyo Constituency are tied directly to mineral resources.

He described the gesture as a vital step toward improving safety and boosting the district’s economy by empowering those at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, small-scale miners have since expressed their gratitude, noting that the donation will improve their work and create better opportunities for the many families who depend on small-scale mining for their survival.

Gilbert Mwale, a stone crusher, recalled the hardships miners faced before the arrival of the machine.

He explained that workers previously relied on picks and shovels to separate waste rock, while those in silica mining used manual methods to crush stones by hand.

“The manual work was difficult and time consuming,” Mr Mwale said.

“The newly donated machine has now made the work easier, faster, and more efficient for everyone involved,” he added.

The impact of the donation is expected to reach beyond the mines and into the local construction industry.

Another miner, Mathews Mulenga, highlighted that the machine is capable of producing quarry dust and various sizes of stones required for building projects.

Mr Mulenga stated that the increased productivity will lead to higher income for families and encouraged community members who wish to use the equipment to feel free to access it.

With the small-scale mining sector now entering a phase of mechanization, the donation is being hailed as a landmark contribution to the economic stability of Kankoyoand surrounding areas

I am asking because I know there is a government which has failed to work which just blows hot air propaganda. Sadly though, no serious alternative government in waiting
