The Maureen Mwanawasa Community Initiative (MMCI) has donated assorted items worth K15 million to the women’s fellowship of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ).

And the MMCI has pledged K1 million in cash to the same fellowship.

Former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa, who is also MMCI chairperson, said the donated items will benefit the vulnerable people, whom she said were facing a lot of challenges in the country.

Mrs. Mwanawasa made the donation today when she officiated at a fundraising tea party organized by the women’s fellowship of the Reformed Church in Zambia.

She said in order for the vision 2030 to succeed, the underprivileged people should be incorporated in the national development plans of Zambia.

She noted that the church’s commitment to serving the underprivileged people in society was in line with the MMCI’s objectives in its five year strategic plan.

Mrs. Mwanawasa noted that the economic meltdown has not only hit the developed world but it has also impacted negatively on the people living in poor countries.

Speaking at the same occasion, Women’s Fellowship of the Reformed Church in Zambia chairperson Cynthia Banda the fellowship aimed at raising funds for the establishments of multi-skills resource centre that would create various business activities.

Mrs. Banda said the resource centre will have skills such as carpentry, baking and tailoring among others.

She urged women to assist the less privileged people by providing skills.

  1. Maureen is very consistent in the way she conducts her programmes. This explains why the late husband was successful in most of the things he was doing. I hope she will continue helping those who are in need in communities. She setting a very good example to those who want to be leaders in society.

  2. Maureen is thinking 2011

    Trouble is i smell…no chance.

Why dont she get outta limelight and mourn her dear husb. one month is not enough. take a one year sabattical lady and concentrate on your law firm.

state house ya li lowa aini?

  3. “WORKS and supply minister Mike Mulongoti has attributed the poor road network in most towns in Luapula and Northern provinces to the heavy traffic of copper ore and sugar.”

  4. WHATEVER COMES OUT OF MULONGOTI’s MOUTH IS CRAP. I AM NOW CONVINCED HIS HASS-LICKING OVERTAKES HIS SMALL-TIME REASONING. HAS HE EVER SEEN A BUSY ROAD IN HIS LIFE. IF ROADS WERE PROPERLY CONSTRUCTED IN ZAMBIA THE CURRENT TRAFFIC VOLUME ISN’T MUCH TO DAMAGE THE ROADS AT LEAST FOR 30 YEARS AFTER CONSTRUCTION. IT MAKES ME SAD TO SEE THE CURRENT CROP OF LEADERSHIP IN OUR COUNTRY.

  5. Nice one Madam Maureen. But will not be suprised if i hear her start making noise for the big office in 2011. Guys watch the space for details

  6. Hold your fire, don’t read state house spean on the Zambian Watchdog & come to comment here. This is not Mrs Mwanawasa but the Chief Executive of MMCI,Mrs Nkunika who is Mrs Mwanawasa’s older sister, she’s been running this organisation since its inception.

  7. Frankly, I would vote for her if she stood for any position. I think she is an inspiration to most of us. Sometimes we condemn people just from hearsay. I think thats cheap.

  8. Pardon me fellow bloggers , I had to put on / wear my shades to see whether this is Maureen Mwanawasa. Still confused , anyhow shall the good works continue.

  9. I have forgotten how good looks are determined at home: she looks rather scary, grumpy, no smile, voodoish, no smile, to me. Are people still judged by their shade of their skin in Zambia? Can someone fill me in on why some bloggers have said she has good looks and the like? That is not to say Mrs. mwanawasa is not beautiful person: there is a difference, I wouldn’t say she is stunningly good looking still.

  10. Some kids are a problem eh.This is Mrs Mwanawasa’s older sister, she is not a kid like Dora or whoever ur comparing her to neither is she a model.Mrs Mwanawasa is not a kid & model too, they are elders who deserve respect for their hard work.Learn to distinguish between politics & good work,it’s not worth it insulting someone doing a good service

  11. Good afternoon everyone. Respect is due to our former First Lady for carrying on with the good works. May the good Lord sustain her and bless her with many more years of humble service to the Zambian people.

  12. She , Mrs M Mwanawasa is doing a good job, however , what LT has written is wrong . Naming the woman in the picture to be Maureen please …..

  13. Jigga man, you are right…

Great to know that MMCI is still working, thought it had died like Hope foundation.

  14. Please leave Maureen alone. It is her citizenship right to contest any election in this country. and please stop asking her to mourn her husband! Why is it that women are the ones always expected to mourn husbands till eternity comes? Look at Changirai, he is about and doing his normal duties hardly after a month the wife died? Maureen please go ahead and to what is best for you. One one should stop you!
    Aluta continua!

  15. Where are our Sunday pics? LT bwaila kuno Melbourne what time do you post them? It 21 hours and I always look forward to them? Someone tell me, am I too early for that.

  16. Zambians helping fellow Zambians. That s the spirit we have to promote. There are few NGOs doing what MMCI is doing.

  17. THE WOMAN IN THE PICTURE IS NOT MAUREEN. SHE IS MRS NKUNIKA- MAUREEN’S ELDER SISTER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MCCI.
LUSAKA TIMES SHOULD HAVE CAPTIONED THE PICTURE!

  18. This woman looks great, I rather be jus next to her doing nothing,I hope God creates more of such before we run out of stock.

  19. whatever she is doing is good for the country. her ambitions her own load to carry i hope she will appreciate that we have a say as a citizen. so far so great but our population still has that tradition to see women mourning for a year.old things.

  20. Some people will never have kind words for Mrs. Mwanawasa, even if she had the capabilty to cure HIV and bring about world peace.

  21. Ba Maureen well done for giving to the people in need,God will definitely replace where you have taken out.The Bible says in 1st Corintians chapter 9 that “God blesses a cheerful giver” and in Acts the same bible says that “Its more blessed to give than to receive”.So Ba Maureen your giving to the pipo in need is not in vain there is a greater reward awainting you.

    God bless you..

By the way Mulishani bonse Pa site pano? Awe ine Iam great God has been so good to me I cant complain.

  22. #30 nine chale, you are right,we have a very big problem as beings, its like the condition of man is a condition of war of everyone against everyone,no one wants to appreciate the good that other people do,its so hard to understand why? …………..hence the say.” they never miss you until you are dead or gone”

  23. Nice job Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa. When is the reference to “former first lady” going to stop. Someone said, “too much of one thing is very dangerous.”

  24. The Dr looks great.Continue doing the good job ofor the needy. You cantjust continue mourning Dr,things happen and you got to move on.

  25. She remains first lady for G, bro. I hope her MMCI doesn’t die a natural death like Vera’s Hope Foundation. But the chick is upgrading herself educationally has was evident that even thru her hubby’s sickness, she was still studying. I am impressed, she has Masters in BA .Good show!!!

  26. Maestro I personally see nothing wrong with the ref “first lady” . She is what she is and she is a former first lady still in service of her country women and men. It is not the title that matters, but the deeds.

  27. Jamaco, that is a fact that Mrs M. Mwanawasa is a former first lady, but how does that fact help her. Look at Mrs Betty Kaunda, do we always refer to her as former first lady. How about Mrs Vera Chiluba-Tembo, do we call her former first lady always?
Also, check out Zambian Ambassador to China former Vice President Lupando Mwape, do we constantly refer to him as former Veep or we address him rightly in his new capacity? Also, are we going to be referring to Mr Nevers Mumba as former Vice President in his new capacity as Ambassador to Canada. Why cling to titles which come and go? Let us use present capacity terms to make progress instead of clinging to the past as if past titles will help Mrs M. Mwanawasa to achieve something more.

  28. By the way, find time to read a nice story into current Zambian politics on Zambianwatchdog. Later.

  29. Hi Bloggers! I am glad to join you. I think that Dr Maureen is pragmatic enough and has leadership skills which those in government now would only wish they had. I for one would give her a vote if she stood for presidency. Lets face it, Zambia is currently on auto pilot with everyone still studying the flying manual, and we do not have enough time or fuel for that!
