MP Syakalima bemoans poor state of roads in his area

Share

Siavonga Member of Parliament, Douglas Syakalima, has bemoaned the poor state of most feeder roads in his constituency and said there is need to urgently improve them.

Mr. Syakalima noted that the poor state of the roads was affecting the social and economic development of the district.

He observed that it would be difficult for farmers in distant areas to have access to markets for their produce if the roads remained in a bad state.

“Currently farmers from chiefdoms such as Sinadambwe are finding it difficult to go to the market for their produce because the roads are impassable and cannot be accessed by any means of transport,” he said.

Mr. Syakalima added that it would be difficult to develop the area in terms of infrastructure because of poor roads.
He has since called on government to consider improving the roads in the constituency.

Mr. Syakalima observed that most roads in the country easily get damaged because of lack of maintenance.

He charged that it was wrong for government to neglect the roads for a long time, noting that the roads would only last if they undergo maintenance frequently.

Mr. Syakalima said government should allocate enough resources towards the maintenance of roads.

He observed that under normal circumstances, a road is supposed to last for a period of twenty years without getting damaged.

  1. The only thing that can help local governments and their infrastructure is the decentralization of government. This i a known fact and politicians should stop pretending. You will continue to bemoan A to Z for as long as the strings are pulled by one single cell in Lusaka. How can you end up having beggars within the government?

  2. okay the roads won’t be fixed now,so what is the alternative? that is a lacking pattern.creative thinking.

  3. Nine Chale, they have parked ama graders with the tippers which came as a donation and what abalumendo bansala are doing is just stealing fuel from them wherever they are parked. They should have distributed kuma districts but katwishi ifyo balelolela. Mpaka pa last bakaishitishe pali 40pin each. Bamukukulu, shyaaaa!!!!.

  4. Impressive stuff UPND Siavonga MP Syakalima. On “Mr. Syakalima observed that most roads in the country easily get damaged because of lack of maintenance.””, this is vey true. Even here, people take mantenance of their infrastructure very seriously. How I hope our MMD GRZ will take your message seriously so that ordinary Zambians can benefit.

  5. They will never listen to this clever young man. I would advise Douglas to start being a bit more innovative by writing project proposals that will source funding for the feeder roads as RB and Mulongoti are so dull that they will not act on obvious issues. I mourn the two late presidents Mazoka and LPM.
