Adoption of dual citizenship cheers Sinkamba

Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba
Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba

Green party president Peter Sinkamba says the passing of the dual citizenship clause in the constitution bill presents great economic benefits to the country if correctly harnessed.

Mr. Sinkamba says Zambia, like many countries in the region has large diaspora overseas, with substantial Diaspora savings that could be mobilized for development financing citing that According to the World Bank, in addition to the large annual flows of remittances, migrants living in high income countries are estimated to hold savings in excess of $500 billion annually.

He says these savings represent a huge pool of funds that developing countries, including Zambia, can do much more to tap into.

He says the Green Party Diaspora Policy is structured to tap into diaspora taxes, remittances and savings adding that the entry point will be taking a census of Zambians in the diaspora.

Mr. Sinkamba says the next step will be to enter into bilateral agreements with host governments on taxes, remittances and savings, especially that dual citizenship is now legal in Zambia.

He states that the Green Party policy is intended to reverse the trend whereby official development assistance (ODA) is larger than remittance stressing that they plan to make diaspora remittances to be much more stable than either foreign direct investment or private financing flows.

He further points out that they also plan to ensure that government accounting and budgeting system in Zambia captures the remittances.

    • $500 BILLION, ama Zambians mu diaspora?? Sinkamba ibange too much.
Maybe abena Ndobo, Wanzelu, Bootlicker, Catpower may bring in $10 million each.
I will bring in $520 annually!!

  1. Plliz ba sinkamba save ur crap to urself. Ok! U also think u can rule zambian with that kind of stinking views? Come on just leave the ball for the big boys like HH to run issues next year, just save ur money for ur children coz u be bankrupt at the end like major and been a broke nigger is not ok!!!

    • Well, you won’t see the money, till the stinking thieves in power are kicked out!! IF ANYTHING, WE NEED OUR VOTES IN THE DIASPORA TO COUNT, If you are to see any cent coming that direction!!

  2. The net effect to passing of the dual citizenship clause in the constitution bill is good for Zambia. It’s actually overdue.

However, the Green Party President Peter Sinkamba’s reasoning, if he was quoted correctly, clearly suggests he has lost the plot. But then again maybe he never got it in the first place.

  3. Watch this guy “Mr. Legalize it.” One day and pretty soon he will become a political force to recon with. I don’t agree with his policy propositions but hey I am just one. The media is quoting him too frequent and his policy options seem logical and sound at first sight. But we are in Africa and banje and the tradition perceptions on it are almost cast in concrete. Kaya maybe the youth ( 45- 60% of voters) might buy into his views …

  5. Tizadya dual citizenship. Lungu is the worst form of life at his best. He probably isn’t even worth cleaning RB’s shoes. He threw the towel in the constitution making progress a long time ago. The process right now is in auto pilot and the government is running itself. I wonder what is going on in the executive and let alone the presidency.

    • if this is what it means to be ‘visionless’ and your so called ‘auto-pilot’, then it’s a good thing and is producing results. I don’t want your ‘vision’ type of leadership that never delivered anything on the constitution.

  6. blame and counter attack lungu, u continue suffering like HH and his followers, support Lungu and u wil be happy, sankamba has a vision than HH coz he understands issues and not blinded by NEGATIVITY like some of our politicians like …………….

  7. This dual citizen nonsence will on day backfire. you cant be a zambian yet a briton at the same time – never, similerly you cant save two masters at the same time. you will save one and disappoint the other. Period.

    • dont implement this cluase its a selfish attempt by those (unpatrotic chaps) in the diaspora to eat with both hands

    • Your point is true only when the government is a master of the people. A truly representative government is a SERVANT of the people because it exists to take care of the people and not to SERVED by the people. Now, I can surely use a garden boy and chef without showing any bias.
