Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Chelsea manager after a 2-1 defeat by Leicester compounded his side’s miserable start to the season.

The Portuguese boss guided his side to the Premier League title in May, but Monday’s loss was their ninth of the campaign, leaving them in 16th place, just a point above the relegation places.

Mourinho, who was ready to open talks over a financial settlement to seal his exit after the defeat at West Ham at the end of October, has now seen his second spell at Stamford Bridge come to an end.

A club statement confirmed that the club had ‘parted company’ with their manager, and said results had ‘not been good enough’.

‘Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent,’ the statement read.

‘All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.

‘His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

‘The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea.

‘His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge. The club’s focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.

‘There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made.’

  1. So they are blaming him for the declined play of the grand fathers on his team. Any team needs experience, but we all know Chelsea is an old team; old as in their players are of the above thirty years of age variety.

  2. As an Arsenal fan, my other teams are Barcelona and Chelsea. Jose brought flare and invincibility to the club on his first tour of duty. However, his second coming was a disaster partly because he hugely overated himself and started poking fun at other coaches especially the Arsenal coach Arsen Wenger. In short, he brought bad luck to himself so its good riddance.

  3. Leave the stage when the audience is still clapping. Ferguson learn from Mourihno (Chelsea) and Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool). Don’t ever think of coming back at Old Trafford. You have already made a good CV. Akabwelela numa kalalya.

  4. Comment: Jose is a good coach, maybe it’s the selection of English words that offends coaches and soccer fans. Let him emulate Ferguson and Wenger but I don’t think he can do so, he over rates himself.

  5. As an arsenal fan, I am sad because I wanted Jose to be there come Next year close of season. All I wanted was to know who the specialist in failure is

  6. I’m sad bcuz i wanted to witness further defeats and agony for the arrogant Mourinho. The self titled “special one” needed a few more disastrous results to make him taste humble pie which is the right antidote for his hubris.Bye see ya “arrogant one”

  7. Comment:he would have been given chance for the January transfer. Now that he has been sacked nothing to say but we wallop Sunderland, maybe players didn’t want him from the point of view. Wish u well moorings u are a good coach.
