Tana backs CHAN team

Ex-Chipolopolo captain Elijah Tana says Zambia will excel at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

Zambia is returning to the CHAN, the competition for local players, for the first time since the 2009 inaugural event.

In an interview from Chingola, Tana said he believes in the squad coach George Lwandamina has selected for the tournament that starts on January 16.

“When you are expecting nothing that’s when the team performs well. I know Zambia will do well in Rwanda,” Tana said.

The retired Nchanga Rangers defender said the addition of experienced striker Christopher Katongo and midfielder Isaac Chansa would be of great value to the squad.

“The team is good and the inclusion of Katongo and Chansa brings experience to the squad,” he said.

Zambia won bronze at the 2009 CHAN in Ivory Coast.

“I am advising the players to remain focused. Let them not look back.
” I am supporting the team. Let’s all support the boys.” Tana added.

Zambia will compete against Zimbabwe, Mali and Uganda in Group D of the CHAN.
