MMD president Nevers Mumba says the party’s national executive committee (NEC) has categorically resolved to support the Patriotic Front (PF) in the August 11 general elections.

Dr Mumba said in an interview on Tuesday that: “Our position is to have a favourable alliance with the PF. That is what the NEC resolved.”

He, however, said what MMD national secretary Mwansa Mbulakulima told the nation is contrary to what NEC had agreed.
“We mandated our national secretary (Mr Mbulakulima) to work out modalities but he has not done so, hence my writing to him so that he exculpates himself,” Dr Mumba said.

And yesterday Mr Mbulakulima said Dr Mumba should clearly state whether he wants to go into an alliance with the PF or United Party for National Development (UPND).

Mr Mbulakulima said in an interview that Dr Mumba will do the country a great favour by openly and clearly stating his position on the issue of partnering with the PF ahead of the August general elections.

Mr Mbulakulima said he is surprised that Dr Mumba has questioned why he (Mr Mbulakulima) told the nation that the MMD is ready for a pact with the PF.

“The statement I gave to the nation is a true reflection of the MMD NEC’s resolution to rally behind the PF,” Mr Mbulakulima said.

He said the only thing he did not include when he announced the possible pact with the PF is the issue of conditions.
“Conditions are discussed behind closed doors, not in the public,” he said.

Mr Mbulakulima said if negotiations are to be genuine, conditions must be discussed by a committee comprising both sides to reach a win-win situation.

“The cornerstone of our pact is that the people of Zambia must be the greatest winners. So for Dr Mumba to write to me that I exculpate myself for saying MMD is going in an alliance with the PF shows lack of appreciation of my contribution to the MMD.

In a letter dated February 2, 2016 seen by this reporter, Dr Mumba warns of action against Mr Mbulakulima for declaring that the party (MMD) will go into an electoral alliance with the PF.

“Can you please respond in order to ascertain the next course of action,” the letter signed by Dr Mumba reads in part.

    • Let MMD form an Alliance with PF. Both will be history. I also know that almost half of MMD supporters will vote for UPND.

    • @ABM. You are very right with your observation it is a shame. But no one should be surprised by what Dr Nevers Mumba does. He has never done anything in his life for the greater good and benefit of the nation, it has always been about ‘WHAT IS IN IT FOR HIM’.

In 2001 after Dr Levy Mwanawasa won a very controversial election, there was so much political tension in the country such that the church had to come in to broker peace. It was agreed then that govt and opposition come together to dialogue. The Opposition chose Dr Mumba to dialogue directly with the president on their behalf. They were not to know that he instead would use the opportunity to lobby for the Vice Presidency for himself. With that selfishness he cost the country a huge opportunity for NATIONAL BUILDING.

    • after teargassing you!!!!! what do you complain about Dr Nevers Mumba youre indeed become so directionless Pastor. please ask God to give you direction on this matter i believe it would help the believers more than what youre doing at the moment

    • Nevers you owe Mwansa Mbulakulima some level of appreciation & respect. When everyone else abandoned you Mwansa stood up for you. Come 11/08 PF, after getting the few members remaining in MMD, will kick you out & only then will you realise you need these guys.

    • This is what happens when a political parties is run a leaders who have made politics a sorce of livelihood. Nevers Mumba has never generated an income in his life, he earns his livelihood relying donations and tax payers. Mumba cannot even win Lungu a councilor. Very soon Lungu will realize that Mumba brings no value to PF, and Mumba will be dumped.

  1. What can one say about the current MMD leadership? So Mr Edgar Keembe was right to rebut Mbulakulima’s rushed and desperate statement. You characters in MMD are now just as confused as the PF. I think this also is an indictment on Nevers’ poor leadership and nails MMD to the coffin forever. Both Mumba and Mbulakulima are desperate and this has led to their current stand off.

  2. THIS YEARS ELECTION IS NOT VERY MUCH ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAMPAIGN.
THE RULING PARTY HAS CAMPAIGNED FROM THEIR DEEDS DURING THEIR TENURE.
ITS ABOUT THE COST OF LIVING REALITY VS BEING PARTISAN.

  3. If there’s one issue that everyone in UPND will avoid talking about is the issue of a convention.

    • Because they are united in endorsing their leader HH, who was voted in by a ballot system and not the primary school methods of “show of hands”

  4. Finished parties and hopeless/selfish/greedy leaders easily expose themselves. No VOTE for you come 11 August 2016. Ba Nevers abantu efyo bapwa ififine. Hang on to church workshops otherwise this is your miscalculation. End of an ERA.

  5. Nevers is a very nervous guy who should never be allowed near power! Whoever will make him his running mate will never see the inside of plot 1

  6. The pact will be formed early enough to win an election, the coming months will be full of defections(house cleaning for MMD and PF), the earlier everything comes to pass the easier it will be for PF to win. Knowing that the pact will increase the chances of winning however, the move will reduce the number of defections we would have seen and now only the politically mature will read who will truly win in advance and make intelligent calculations.
The next campaign slogan will be how bad Nevers is, a good number of MMD supporters will be taken by UPND, RBs direct involvement will further propel the PF winning. All the best to UPND.

  7. MMD has been despising PF for the past 5 years until two weeks ago and today Dr Mumba is in a desperation mood and wants to destroy MMD for his selfish desires hoping to takeover PF after ECL. MMD should tell Dr Mumba to go alone than dragging the whole party into his selfish motives.

  8. Nevers is sell out!!!!!!!!!!!!! that always wants opportunities. A very cheap and hypocrite man of God. I am not sure God is happy with how these PF people have abused state funds and caused so much suffering. This so called man of God goes and decides to support people that have not only endangered the country’s future by excessively borrowing but also cause a serious economic malfunctioning system. God have mercy on you. As man of God you should have morals and stand for what is right. Stand with the poor. He knows the levels of suffering but he does this. What shame of a pastor.

  9. Who can doubt the winning of PF,MMD pact? The best the pact should do is to adopt candidates suported by both MMD and PF. I feel for HH may be 2021 might be his year.

  10. What is kambwili saying now since he has decided to form an alliance with MMD the government which sold mines not HH?
Zambia’s will surprise if we shall support this arrangement if the people who voted out MMD in 2011 what has changed today

  11. We the Concerned Zambians against a government of Mmembe for Mmembe By Mmembe wish to wellcome the honorable ruling by the Supreme Court of Zambia to allow the Tribunal Constituted to probe the alleged misconduct of the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito , and hereby pray that the Process starts without any delays.
In the same vein we eagerly await the Courts’ Decisions on DBZ and ZRA Tax issues involving Fred Mmembe. Let the Apologist ,Hakainde Hichilema, of known Tax Cheats, Bank Defrauders and Economic Saboteurs realize that the Justice being sought by the Zambians will soon be achieved. August 11, 2016 Mmembe and his Proxies will Fall. We will support ECL all the way.

HH AND UPND ARE OUR SAFETY VALVE. VOTE HH AND VOTE UPND THIS AUGUST.

  13. Mumba is conspicuously concerned on the ” me, myself and I” outcome. He won’t mind leading a divided outfit so long as he benefits politically. He would have taken time to organize his party but he has, as usual, turned a blind eye to the hostility boiling from within. This may have dire consequences to his party and the purported alliance.

  14. This alliance thing basically means the end of MMD, right? Nevers is using his entire party to position himself for a post in the Government. What a sellout!

  15. Mumba sold his party, national christian coalition (ncc) to mmd, and now he wants to sell mmd to pf…. This man is Not stable at all

  16. This is what happens when a political parties is run a leaders who have made politics a sorce of livelihood. Nevers Mumba has never generated an income in his life, he earns his livelihood relying donations and tax payers. Mumba cannot even win Lungu a councilor. Very soon Lungu will realize that Mumba brings no value to PF, and Mumba will be dumped

  17. Njala does that to people! Bouncing from one party to the next. In the end it’s failures running the nation. Why do we vote for these useless chaps! Ba Shi NO NO just how many parties has this old man bounced from? A failure yet accepted everywhere he lands and it is not just him. This is a disgrace to all of them. Masebo, GBM etc. They insult each other then rejoin one another. Why do we elect them? It is our fault so we should not complain. What change will we see with the same people who failed us in the first place by going to another party?
