The African Development Bank, Pit-Latrine Project will this year benefit at least 100 house-holds in Mkushi District.
This was disclosed by Mkushi District Council Chairman Reginald Chisenga during an interview this morning.
Mr. Chisenga said the project which is aimed at promoting hygiene in residential areas is part of the “Keep Zambia Clean Campaign” and will be spear-headed by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
He said Itala, Inndeco, and Kawama compounds are some of the areas that have been earmarked for this special project.
He added that Mkushi District Council will soon carry out sensitization campaigns to enlighten the residents on what was expected of them during the implementation of this project.
Mr. Chisenga said the African Development Bank and the Ministry of Local Government and Housing were working on logistics and that the project will commence as soon as they finish.
Government will this year fund the rehabilitation of Mkushi High School-MAFI Road and Fiwila-Old Mkushi Road.
This was disclosed by Mkushi District “Council Secretary Sydney Muwowo during an interview with ZANIS this morning.
The Council Secretary also disclosed that township roads may be included in the project but stressed that the emphasis was on the highlighted roads.
He said the state of the art machinery which was currently in Kapiri-Mposhi District will soon be in the area and that the rehabilitation work will then be effected to ensure there is a good road network in the area.
Mr. Muwowo also said Mkushi-MSOFU road was another road that was under consideration for rehabilitation.
He said the Road Development Agency will soon award a contract to a befitting contractor to commence rehabilitation.
He therefore advised aspiring contractors to ensure that they did commendable jobs once the contracts were awarded to them.
Mr. Muwowo sasid his office will closely monitor all rehabilitation works and ensure that incapable contractors’ contracts are terminated.

some of these issues can be by local pipo the councils were serious.do we need african dev bank to help local pipo to dig pit latrins?if we had serious by laws,any family without pit latrine is suppose to be punished,and one such punishment wud involve digging 2 latrines,1 for his family and the second for communal places like markets.in colonials times our parents were paying taxes and pipo complied,now yu fail to make pipo dig their own pit latrines,this is shameful.what is happening to our councils?and yu’re wondering why yu’ve cholera every year.african dev bank wud come in handy thru provision of boreholes fo rural pipo to have clean drinking water,and not vibuzi pilizi!
This is a manifestation of a chronic maladmninistration of one entity called Zambia. How do you even go to the press to announce that ADB is funding Pit Latrines to 100 families. It would have been news if the announcement was flash toilets in the villages. When are we going to move forward in our beloved countries?
