Zambia to rally behind Zimbabwe’s economic recovery

Share

Zambia’s High Commissioner to Zimbabwe Sipula Kabanje says Zambia supports the efforts by Zimbabwe to revive its economy and does not support the sanctions still imposed on its southern neighbor.

Dr Kabanje has said the Zimbabwean economy is back on the road of recovery following the dollarization of the economy in that country.

Dr Kabanje said Zimbabwe has overcome the phenomenon of hyper inflation following the replacing of the Zimbabwean currency with the United Sates Dollar and the South African Rand.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Harare today, Dr Kabanje said it has always been Zambia’s spirit to support its neighbors.

He said Zambia will rally behind Zimbabwe’s efforts aimed at bringing economic stability in the southern neighboring country that is emerging out of a period of hyper inflation.

The ambassador said it is Zambia’s desire to see sanctions and restrictions imposed on Zimbabwe removed as the government of national unity endeavors to bring back peace and prosperity in the country.

He said Zimbabwe’s economy is rising and the world should congratulate President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangarai for agreeing to work together.

He noted that the government of national unity in Zimbabwe is now delivering and what is remaining is the removal of sanctions and restrictions in order for the economy to explore more opportunities.

“President Mugabe and Prime Minister Tsvangarai must be congratulated. These are African leaders who found an African problem which they have resolved. The inclusive government is now delivering and sanctions must be removed,” he said.

  1. Zambians should be encouraged to invest in Zimbabwe. This is a very rich country that will be a marvel of Africa again. GRZ should also invest there as a means of diversifying our earnings. Most qualified zimbos have left. GRZ should tie into the economic coperation the employing of our garduates walking the streets in Zambia.

  2. # 2 You can not compare the infrastructure Zimbabwe has with the haphazard infrastructure we have. They are the 2nd largest platinum producer, 2nd largest gold and dimond producer in Africa. The west is licking its lips at the moment. The south African are pouring into zimbabwe.
I bought a hse in Harare for $20K , in subarb comparable to Roma or rhodes park. 3 yrs ago. Now it is worth atleast $45k. Good retuns or what.

  3. Please improve your own before we start talking about zim! as a matter of fact we are in the same shoes so don’t sound like your economy is any better!!!!!

  4. Even in that mess, Zim is much better. Mugabe is not a lezy guy and also Zim has better infrastructure. So, stop cheating youeselves that you can help Zim. In fact theirfriend South Africa will help them, not the ever strugling Zambia!

  5. Let the Zimbabwe economy grow so we can export our products to Zimbabwe. The rate of return should be greater if we export to Zimbabwe rather than other countries we share borders with.

Zambians, incentives are there for you to start manufacturing firms and export your goods to Zimbabwe. We must strive to be an export economy. Dambisa Moyo suggested this.

  6. More so, the problems pf Zim are not petty like ours. It is not like throwing a party for poor ester an later only to be told that the fight was actually illigal or Teta telling Magande to be quiet just because Teta is premitive. In Zim, those issues are highly strategic. Despite the trugling economy, when all this ends, Zim is still going to be a very strong economy. Just wait and see. In Zed 85% of the ministers come from rural areas 😉 just the opposite of other countries

  7. Zim is a gem. Anyone who believes the rubbish that it is a hopeless case will lose out. The people who say leave Zim alone are saying it so that they can come in alone and benefit. Why do you think that British and the Americans are so interested in what happens in Zim? They know that there is serious money to be made.

  8. Even as low as they have sunk, Zim still has far better infrastructure than Zam. Don’t think we’ll able able to export to them when they recover – they will re-start exporting to us. The way we should “help” them is to buy controlling equity in their companies and industries as the South Africans have started and Batswana are intending to. Whatever we do, we should not just give them our money.

  9. Usually I am on the offeive against the government, this time I am ith the people. Let us invest in Zimbabwe and biuld cordial relationships with their people. I repeat invest not give out money with n attachments like KK did. Power up our hydro generation plants and export them energy. How easy economic solutions are, visionless people run our development sectors. Later.
