President Rupiah Banda has assured the nation that Zambia has enough maize to sustain the population despite the humanitarian gesture to Zimbabwe.
He said Zambia and Zimbabwe have shared good relations for a long time hence the need to assist each other in time of need.
Mr. Banda was speaking shortly after his arrival from Zimbabwe where he had gone for a four-day state visit following an invitation from that country’s unity government.
Zambia has given Zimbabwe 9000 metric tons of maize. The intervention is part of Zambia’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic recovery programme as recently agreed to by SADC leaders.
Meanwhile, President Banda has welcomed the call from the labour movement to meet him over the plight of workers in the country.
Mr. Banda says his administration is anxious to meet the labour movement leaders because the movement is one of the most important stakeholders in the country.
On the technical team instituted to facilitate the taking over of the Luanshya mine, Mr. Banda announced that the technical team will soon conclude the process.
He said a successful bidder would soon be announced and given a green light to take over the mine.
On the mobile hospitals, President Banda said the idea of acquiring mobile hospitals for rural areas offered by the Chinese government has not yet been approved.
Mr. Banda however, said his administration is not against the initiative.
And Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati has described the just-ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) which President Banda graced as successful.
Mr. Mutati said the Zimbabwe trade fair was also an eye opener for the trade market of various Zambian products in that country.
He has since urged Zambian companies take advantage of the market opportunities in Zimbabwe.

Ok
Welcome back home Rb
Zambia has enough “imported” maize to sustain it’s citizens ka?
Double standards, why is it illegal for ordinary business me Zambians to export maize to Zimbabwe if we have enough Maize then? WHat is the truth RB. Why can’t you say we are offering a sacrife to ZIM because it is your birth place. Your ministers odered people to stop the export of Maize bacause there was not enough in the country. The prices of Mealie is high because there is not enough maize in the country. Some people are calling for the govt to allow improtation of Maize to keep the price down. So Mr president ..who are you kidding here. Just tell the national the truth. Zambians are smart and understanding people ..you don’t have to feed us lies please.
I dont know where all this courage to say this bluntant lie comes from RB…. Did you count all your sheep well? are they all well fed?
Ba RB
Enough maize when your people are having one meal per day, what is he talking about?. So he has to think of his relatives first than the peaple he is ruling.
Rooftop Barman is a fake politician. Now you talk about meeting the labour movement when celebrations ended yesterday. You better be speaking the truth about your maize reserves Toadface, otherwise those millers in Choma will come for your neck should maize flow cease. I personally think that if there were enough supplies maize wouldn’t be going for K70 000 at the market.
Ese kuno Unga ni K85,000. This is making it not to be readily availlable to many Zambians. Tizayamba kudya chabe Unga wa Tute. KAYA.
obviously RB has taken “love thy neighbor” literally.
it really must be painful having a boss like RB! Half the time he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Most of you from your parents to yourselves are trapped in generation poverty because of your natural gluttonous spirit. There is a blessing in giving than receiving.Blessed is the hand that giveth.Ichakulya tachichepa akachepa kelaya. Here is the US deep in a historic economic crisis yet generously giving to the world without measure.Giving unlocks your blessings.Zambia will be blessed because its led by a leadership that gives. We have been a becon of peace that transcends political rhetoric for generations because of our giving spirit. At individual level, those who have wasted their time resenting the giving spirit have continued poor and valueless bloggers for generations.
Nyama soya , please get this , Zambia is not a kindergarten class where Father X-Mas is seen as a pacifier and you are posing as one . ostentatious giving is merely pretentious . How does your statement reconcile with shortage of mealie meal in the nation and increased pricing of the same …father x-mas spare the Zambians with your lack of sensitivity and naivety of a child
🙂 OBSERVE!
A leader is only as good as the people he rules.Ruphiah Banda is a reflection of just how rotten Zambian society is.Most Zambians don’t live in reality, because if they did MMD was not going to be in power today. Most Zambians only care about themselves and have no unity of purpose in anything.Imagine, the best the youth can do is produce hustlers like,Kelvin Sampa,Lifwekelo,Cosmo,Siulapwa and other such useless empty heads.
Just thinking RB does not insult , well ,he is father x-mas a good model of grand pa…the opposite of the spitting cobra… I may understand why LPM picked on him as an elderly adviser to soothe his inflammable temper …..And Magande or Kabinga Pande as the successor not Father x-mas …
When you believe in your inner self and inner abilities; you can only do TWO things good or evil zambia scenrio:
1. KK the peace maker, liberator and the crying president , promoter of Humanism
2. FTJ trade capitalist, fake/good philanthropist, Political engineer and Dribbler
3. LPM An introvert meticulous lawyer, the hard brick and the fighter of corruption and injustice(RIP)
4. RB self proclaimed tender meat of soya product(Nyama soya), Father x-mas
5. 2011 , the Moses, and the Joseph of Zambia the cry of all Zambians yes and indeed Zambians………………………………………………………………..
#15 Mulenga in Newcastle, Amen to that! Spot on. Every nation DESERVES the leadership it elects!
“…He said Zambia and Zimbabwe have shared good relations for a long time hence the need to assist each other in time of need…” Remind me again, when last did Zimbabwe “assist” Zambian in time of need?
I am compelled to write , painfully as it may be ,father x-mas should groom some one , the Snake should do the same , where as UPND requires to wake up from slumber and admit Mazoka is dead and your are a small party …sell your selves
RB will be the worst president Zambia has ever had.If the unfortunate demise of LPM did not occur this man could not have been anywhere near the presidency. He completely has no direction. We don’t want to hear that there is shortage of maize in the country after you have donated to our neighbour. Its not wrong to assist but ensure your household is secure,i say so because its not long when you assured us there was enough maize only to find that there was actually no maize. This even led to the importation of GMO.Now RB tell us your next destination-JOHN WALKER,KAMWENDOMUNJILA
I speak , because when good people watch and keep quiet , the evil bent on exploitation and the merciless take over …
Evil People , You talk of economic recovery of Zimbabwe ,how about Human rights recovery .Free the human rights activists in the prisons of Zimbabwe…
Free the political and human rights activists in the prisons of Zimbabwe….
Wiseman Reborn muli fye bwino? Am very dissapointed with this RB.The just ended labour was the first one during RB,s reign. Not only that but also the critical one because thats the day RB would have explained to the workers what he would do to stop further job losses.People wanted to hear from him not George Kunda no.Instead of adressing these crucial issues,he goes to Zimbabwe to announce how many tonnes he will give to Zimbabwe.Buka shotepo fye ubunga mukamonaka.Baya sana aba banthu.
I meant labour day.
The issue of being father christmas over the distribution of maize wil be a disaster. Lets look what wil happen in Oct, Nov and Dec. The same problem was faced last year. Mark my words.
Chewe the virgin I am Fine , anyhow , I wish not appear as a constant critic of the govt but I have a duty to speak for the Zambians, if I did otherwise I cease to be who I am…
# 27 DODO , what are the solutions , Between now and 2011. Non philosophical induction that is mythological area , but actuality is the answer in the Zambian context.
Ours is simply a banana republic ….The day LPM died it became a banana republic . I believe things will revert to normalcy when the old bones give way for the young
Zambia is a country with a population of diverse people of different culture and intellect …others with militants spirits yet others with nobility amounting to what is called One Zambia one Nation , for a very true reason yes One Zambia one Nation why ? there was a problem?
Bloggers, if I may not be mistaken not long time ago, this same forum (LT) brought a story on how Zimbabwean businessman in Siavonga was arrested for buying a truck load of maize. The reason was shortage of mealie meal and in fact no one was allowed to buy more than two bags. What has changed all of a sudden? Change of policy or change of heart? Am shocked really.
Some of you on the blog are crying about a rotten leadership, forgetting that it was the will of the people that kept MMD in power. Everyone had a very good opportunity to replace the Toadface regime but look what happened? The educated in the towns picked a new leadership and the poor villagers were bought off with sugar and oil.
Unless Zambians become economically independent, all tadpoles will be frogs and toads will rule forever.
#30 wiseman-reborn can you offer a lasting solution to the vote-buying that happens every 5 years in the rural areas?
Its more blessed to give than receive.I think its a good gesture. However, please make sure you tell Zambians the truth.Do we have enough maize or not. The other day you were asking Malawi to grow enough so they give us some!
#33 Your question is very challenging at an individual level , yet an indication of your lack of the Election process in Zambia . We have institutions in Zambia that that are concerned with voting, namely . ECZ which is Election Commission of Zambia, FODEP that came up with simulation/ parallel voter registration and monitoring agents . In short the system is complex , Op plays a vital role in every thing . Concerted Analysis is needed .. Wonder why People in that area do not think … What are your additions
#33 No way ,parallel monitoring of election ensures transparency and avoids rigging ,only that it is an experimenter concept but very costly , if it would cover all the polling stations . FODEP used it last year in Lusaka…. additions
mwebantu LT is bias in reporting issues.
am i right?njebeniko
wiseman-reborn at #36, I’m actually alluding to the fact that MMD played on people’s minds by engaging in so called “politics of the stomach”. The structural organs FODEP and ECZ are in place, but the problem is in the mindset of the people. How can voters be sensitized, especially those in rural areas, to be on the lookout for crooked politicians who donate salt and maize a week before elections? ECZ, FODEP and all independent observers and monitors cannot intervene, politicians will easily defend themselves by saying these are donations that could have been made any time.
Cheap politics.
By vote-buying I wasn’t referring to rigging, I meant buying the heart of a man whose stomach is in dire need of filling.
Zambian Presidents are just way ward,Kaunda spent all our money helping other countries,he drove us backwards, we should have been far ahead of many countries in SADC.Chiluba emotionally and senselessly sold all our companies to foreigners pocketing enough for himself,Mwanawasa favoured the Chinese who continue to this day to exploit Zambians, watered the family tree,Nyama Soya is a bafoon has no idea on how to run government, giving away our precious food to his true and own people,Zimbabweans!! When are the idle and docile people of Zambia going to vote for a Zambian as President, one who truly loves Zambia.HH may be a good guy but he lacks courage to speak up,Sata speaks up but he has a bad human rights record. SHAME! Or is it DOOM!!
it is very difficulty to trust this presidents judgement. He may actually mean something else
#15 Mulenga in Newcastle….my brother or sister whatever you are, you have put it EXACTLY the way it is. Your comment is insightfull and a true summary of Zambia’s problems. Indeed the problems Zambia has are self inflicted and well deserved. What else can you give a nation which rightly condemns RB but think Sata should be the replacement??? A nation whose education does not change the mentality of its citizens…..lets suffer on coz we desrve it…..
In light of “Zambia has given Zimbabwe 9000 metric tons of maize. The intervention is part of Zambia’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic recovery programme as recently agreed to by SADC leaders“, please make sure you deliver that maize this time around as opposed to the embarrassment you caused us Zambians by failing to send 1, 000 metric tonnes of the same which the Zimbabwean government bought with their remaining little resources. Also, this is a better deal than giving Zimbabwean leader Mugabe money to sustain his rants on the British who give us money to run our GRZ.
On “On the mobile hospitals, President Banda said the idea of acquiring mobile hospitals for rural areas offered by the Chinese government has not yet been approved, trains would be…
Just wait and see where this leadership is taking you. Zambia has no leader and as such the country is heaing towards crisis. Giving is good as every person depends on that from others and nature. However let me warn RB, we dont want to hear that there is no maize in Zambia as you lied last year. You exported all the maize and started importing GMOs. Was it planed for your sons so they could import GMOs? Please , we warm you Nyama soya . We dont want this to happen again.
Blessed is the hand that giveth!! But please give responsibly.
Papa J #4 your views are persuasive, critical.
Iwe Wise man -reborn #17 those are not two issues, waibala chizungu?
Bamule #39 bushe mwabuka bwino ilelo! Iyo chamikalipa. But how do you react to observer (imitation) #12?
Please, wise man-reborn and Monalisasyndrome can you spit some of your comments on the 12 year old who died after consistently being sexually abused by her uncle.
I think you have You have said enough on Maize, while monalisasyndrome is yet to come from church perhaps.
The desperation of the POST/ZA has become very evident. What should they do to detract peoles attention from real issues? They choose to pretend to see imaginary storms. The tea cup storms they are trying to ferment is out of malice and ill intention. The ZA millions going down the drain is cause for their malicious campaign. We the people of Zambia cant not pretend not to see this. The POST has got a different problem upon their hands. They tried to put SATA to power by their fruitless campaign but to no avail. Sata had promised to do good on their debt. Mangande was their immediate option but with his being trashed by RB, they opted for SATA. Now they are talking about impeachment! What kind of jokers are they?
Good to be back on the blogg after an absence of last three days.
Well, I hope Zambians are not being taken for a ride this time. You can never trust these politicians.
#47 True Observer, Imitation Observer #12 does not live in reality,Americans give because they have plenty,50 % of the world’s wealth is in USA while Zambia is one of the 18 poorest countries on earth.Zambia has been foolishly giving for nearly 50 years what have we received in return? POVERTY!! Kaunda spent billions of our God given resources helping foreigners for his own glory,Zambians are seen as parasites in neighbouring states because of the poverty inflicted upon them by their headless leaders.Jo’burg is full of SELF TRAFFICKED Zambian girls looking for a better life even if it means through prostitution in a dangerous country.
The fact is that these ZA/POST fellows are soon going to lose all their goods on account of their debt and misdeeds through their front scum company ZA. So in order to mislead and detract peoples attention from their dilemna, they choose to concoct tea cup storms whilst desperately wooing desperados in the likes of Miyanda, Sata along. The POST newspapers articles and opinionsare now mostly the voice of Mmembe and Nchito who have serious issues to deal with. These guys are ready to commit suicide to salvage something for their pride! They are potential suicide bombers. Should they attempt to kill alongside, the whole nation? These selfish hypocrites!
It’s time for a joke:
A bus carrying a group of politicians crashes into a farmer’s maize field. The farmer rushes to the scene to help. Aftzer a while, he starts digging a big hole and buries all the politicians.
A policeman driving past sees the empty bus, stops and asks the farmer where the politicians are. The farmer says he buried them.
“Where they all dead?” asks the policeman.
“No.” replies the farmer, “Some said they were still alive, but you know how these politicians lie.”
There is no way the POST can claim not to have vested interest when we know that their targets are specific individuals who have (in their perception) be the master minds of their downfall. How many scandals have pontential to be reported about if they are interested in exposing crime? Many! Butthey choose deliberately to talk about and even concoct lies suiting their agenda. This is no longer about spearheading the fight for freedom of speech or human rights. It is about saving ones skin and interests.
I believe many are able to see beyond their pretensious articles and opinions. I would rather they came out in the open as that reckless Preist called Bwalya who has now thrown out his gear of sheep clothing. He has literaly been fished out of his hiding. The POST must not pretend that they still carry the banner of freedom of speech! The POST newspaper of the yesteryear is not the POST of today. Yester years POST championed democracy, free speech, fairplay and unpretensious. The Mmembe fellow has over rated himself and thinks its all about skill. No, it is about honesty and sincerity, about voicing the poor mans concern. Theirs today is about ‘serving their back’ . Who can dispute this?
For to start pretending that $30Million dollars debt is a small issue is to pretend with gross consequencies. The debt that ZA/POST has even with Politcs aside is too much for their type to settle. All their goods will be attached to their debt, even the things acquired before the establishment of ZA! This is the thing that is glaring in their face and someone tells me that this is no issue? They will do anything, anything to detract the peoples attention from this calamity in the making. Their pride, families, status is at stake. So tell me what could they do? Is it no wonder that they are championing a cuase that clearly is outside their domain?
‘Religion is the hub of many pretenders’ If what I hear about the Nchitos is true, then my statements holds true for their case. The facts on the ground are that, even without politiking, their debt is too big for them. Honesty must be proven. If I as an individual owes so much to , for instance to a bank, it would be very much within the bank to hold me ransom to my pledge to honour my debt. What on earth were they thinking to end upwith such collosal amounts of debt? They have fallen from their sincere religion to temptation of gratifying the flesh. Quick money and like Judas who having realised his wickedness of betraying innocent Jesus, decide to follow the suicide path! Even if the whole nation were to plunge into chaos as a result of their fall and pride, this will forever hang
54POWER, the POST have simply been perfecting their skill of cheating Zambians who are unsuspecting with their opinion editorials.
Just look at the Holy Bible and you will see how the devil has been perfecting his fight against God, our Creator, using a mixture of truth and error and you will see what is happening in our Zambian media.
Anyway, I just hope Zambians will be careful enough to see what is going on and then vote wisely in 2011 elections.
As for the mobile hospitals, I am with the MMD GRZ. We only need to them to be on the train system rather than cars or lorries that may be prone to many accidents and repair works. Russia is successfully using mobile hospitals and I have experienced there activities personally. Good only that we need to do it well.
onn tghier heads. If the Nchitos are truly the children of God, they have an opportunity to shame the Devil. Yes, they must confess that pride and worth was ahead of God in their life, they must confess of their pride driven ambition to excel at the expense of their soul. It is an opportunity to face thier sin and bow before their maker for thier selfish pride. They must delink them selvesd from an open practicer of sin – Mmembe who at the helm of everything is gain, money and pride. For how can light and darkness collude, how can the Nchitos serve both mamon and God? This is their best and only option or else the statement about Pretenders will surely hold true!
Here is an opportunity for the Nchitos to make on their religion. Confess that Pride and fleshly gratification have been the driving force ahead of GOD in their life. Here, theirs is no pretense for I see an opprortunity to make good of their ‘faith’ Is it true or fake? Do they not see that all this is as a result of their self driven ambition to be rich outside Gods permission? What brings strife, suffering, discords or jealous, envy and the like, James asks. Is it not the quest to be rich even when God says wait? Here is a clear case of backsliders trying to prove a point. For once, Nchito, shame the devil and live!, live that reckless, hell bound fellow to continue is trade alone. Bow your kneel before your maker and confess, he has capacity to forgive.
The eyes of men tell a lot, drooping eyes tell of guilt and shame just as steady eyes tell of peace and calm. Look at Nchito for God’s sake, I truly believe he is a child of God but the light from his eyes have gone! He droops his eyes when you look at him, GUILTY! Leave that God forsaken Mmembe to do his trade he knows best, flee from that fairy of a man who has embodied sin. Pride has over taken him and long if you tarry, you too will have the eyes of a devil, unhindered by your shame.
The fetters of constraint that GOD puts on men restrict them from being the potential devils that they could natuarally desire to be. The constraint apon Mmembe seem to have been pulled and alas he craves the thing despicable and prides himself in sin whilst luring thers along. Mercy is extended to all, even to such as Mmembe is but mercy has a limit and those that long tarry in sins bosom will find it harder to free themselves from its bonds.
He who has an ear, let him hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ba Power mupanga chongo
LT Please remove this old bone … you seem to be a sadist, remember the young shall rule , not the hypocrites ,not the liars but the genuine..
K 70, 0000 National Milling 25 Kg …… ?
Do not talk of mobile clinics when you have limited knowledge of Medicine by virtue of contact in Russia …
One way of looking at RB’s achievements is to consider what would have happened if he was not a good leader. In the face of the global economic meltdown, a non-supportive citizenry, and an opposition/post which has failed to emerge from campaign mode, things would have been worse. Job losses would be triple times, the country would be unstable, banks would have collapsed, people would be dying of hunger on the streets, etc. If the vote in 2008 had gone the other way, would Zambia have a better leadership? Guys times are hard, we need to stand together and with our president. RB’s failure would not be his alone but our collective failure and shame as a nation. Let’s count our blessings and give praise to God, who alone foresaw LPM’s demise and gave Zambia a leader for these trying…
Typical…and what about 2morrow, RB?
#67 good talk , admittedly , let the soya beans and the snake rest and become the political gurus of Zambia
Power…how is what you are ranting related to the story above? I fail to connect your rants to the story of nyamasoya asuring Zambian of more than enough maize. Please stop making noise here.
I am sick and tired of listening to the same stupid hypocritical rantings of our politicians.
Has Zambia sold the maize to Zimbabwe or given it gratis? That maize should have been sold even to the Congo DR for cash rather than giving it to ungrateful Zimbos. Imwe guys, mwati mulatontonkanya?
#58 Maestro. If the mobile hospitals were to be mounted on trains, you know where they would be going, from Livingstone to Chililabombwe up to Nakonde and up to Mulobezi on that rickety line. What happens to people in Munyumbwe, to people in Isoka and Senanga? The mobile hospitals may be working in Russia because the road network is more superior than Zambian roads. Imagine the hospitals going to Siavonga and having to go back through Mazabuka and Monze to get to Sinanzongwe instead of using the almost non-existent Bottom Road. Takuli, Taku, Kulibe, Akuna.
RB are you sure? or may be you want your son to start selling us maize
This president is getting om last nerve!
