Kawambwa Council suspends treasurer over missing K200 million

Kawambwa Council Treasurer, Christopher Kanyanta, has been suspended in connection with K200 million, which has alleged gone missing.

The K200 million is reported to have been released by the Ministry of Local government and housing as a grant in November last year.

Council Chairman, Jacob Chilufya, confirmed the suspension of Mr Kanyanta adding that the decision was arrived at during a full council meeting held recently.

He noted that Mr Kanyanta has been suspended and has since been put on half salary while awaiting auditors from the Provincial Local government office to check books of accounts for the council.

And Mr Chilufya said K64 million that was raised from a ZESCO contract of clearing along power lines and another K100 million that was released by the Ministry of local government and housing was reported to have been missing.

He added that another K25 million that was meant for the development of a play park was also missing in the area has also allegedly gone missing.

According to Mr Chilufya, the funds were released in installments with different cheques but surprisingly the amounts were found on one cheque.

  1. Thats what happens when law inforcement agencies are weak, and who is to blame?.

  2. Send him in. Mushibila nsala. Tomorrow he will be the same person blaming government for everything.

  3. There we go again, another “ubomba mwibala”. I guese the man is innocent until proven guilty as our learned lawyers would put.

  4. There is more to this than just a mere act of corruption. It is part of policy in Zambia to shovel public funds in one’s pockets. Even on grass root level and way up to the presidential seat. I hope the concern will grow so that people do not continue suffering.

  5. The sums involved are just too massive for a small man in a rural district to get away with. If the FRA man was protected, I would not be surprised if this man was also protected.

  6. you cant let Monkeys to be in charge of a maize farm.just picture that.these people are scoundrels how can such ahuge amount go missing.muzanvelako.

  7. This is a colossal sum of money, dont just stop at suspending these culprits, dont even give them bail. Arrest them!

  8. Even if the big fish are going in, the small fry is not afraid to steal. Send these criminals to jail for longer than the 24 months they are been given. Bakaleka.

  9. The problem is even us having a laugh at this pompwe if put in his position trust me would be deeping filth fingers in the public coffers. Until the system is overhauled, until we realise that the only way out of this quagmire is transparency forget development. As for the 2 and half years wako ni wako, tighten up your belts coz we have a hyene in office.

  10. And some people were even sympathizing with the eight pencil clerks jailed for 195yrs. They dont deserve any syphathy just like this gentleman.

  11. Zambia, icalo caba NJEKE, KAZOLO, SAKALANYONGO, KABOLALA. Naimwe ba Kawambwa Council since when did my mbuyaz deserve a play park when you know very well that their recreation is playing ubwambe neng’wena?
