Government says it recognizes the potential the private sector has in creating and promoting employment in the country.
Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Catherine Namugala was speaking when she officiated at the launch of Legacy Holding Group’s multi million dollar Heart of Africa Mixed-Use project in Lusaka last evening.
The project which has been estimated at US$150 million will include the construction of a five star hotel, an indoor shopping mall, restaurant, 850 residential units and an 18-hole PGA standard Matkovich golf course.
Speaking earlier, Legacy Holding International Chairman Bart Dorrestern said Zambia has the potential to become the power house of Southern Africa.
Mr. Dorrestern said the country has a fertile investment environment that makes it attractive to investors.
He also noted that Zambia is endowed with vast tourism potential as the country is rich in natural resources.
Mr. Dorrestern called on Zambians to realize the potential the country has and work toward improving the country’s economy.
Ms Namugala said government was proud to be associated with developmental projects where indigenous Zambians had a stake in them by way of being shareholders.
She said it is for this reason that Government will endeavor to ensure that it continues to create a conducive investment climate in order to reduce the poverty levels in the country.
Ms Namugala said the development initiatives were timely as they would help Government defray the effects of the global economic crunch through revenue that was would be generated from them.
only if we vote wisely!
You people just talk. How does talk profit a Country with so much pressure to overcome? Please start walking and also vote wisely as numbala 1 has put it.
Zambia can only become a power house if we Zambians all put our shoulders to the wheel. Through certain measures like CEEF and effectively managed NGOs, a lot can be achieved from within. Yes we can!
One Love Nine Chale!! I join you in your views on numbala 3
Has anyone seen how Zambia would become a power house from this project. Help me please.
Only if we change our culture and kill corruption.
off course we can, but first we need to determine how we can ,
We can not unless the infracture is repaired or even improved. the roads are in a mess, these are the means of tranportation, the building are also in a mess, we must build and repair the damaged ones, Then educate the pipo about tourisim and how it can benefit them . i feel this is very straight forward, but not for pipo who are in gov, they only care about themselves.
Potentital can be there but if we ourselves are not united then i dont know…
someone here has been listening to “simuona veniona kali na potential”
Jamaco, while talk only is not enough, communication is an essential part of an change. The Zambian peopole need the feel good thing to get the country moving foward. As a country we are just so negative and that will bind us. and ba honey you hav eit right but not all those things can be done over night so even another five star hotel should be apprecaiated. (mind you the country only has two) If you look ay the budget for 2008 and 2009, more emphasis has been placed on infrastructure.
And wiskin (blogger 6) while we all detaste corruption even a corrupt siciety can prosper look at the Asian Tiger, Italy and even America.
A mini village for the expat community is being built here. I can guarantee you that very few zambians, will benefit from this project. i heard something like the plots were going for 400,000+ USD and that was last year.
On “Mr. Dorrestern called on Zambians to realize the potential the country has and work toward improving the country’s economy” thank you sir and I will do my utmost best to follow your advice.
As for “Ms Namugala said the development initiatives were timely as they would help Government defray the effects of the global economic crunch through revenue that was would be generated from them“, please stop misusing or abusing the term global credit crunch. Otherwise, “Speaking earlier, Legacy Holding International Chairman Bart Dorrestern said Zambia has the potential to become the power house of Southern Africa.” is good, but should not just end as a POTENTIAL STORY. We need to act towards achieving the goal.
__ Prevention is better than cure.
If we can first accept that we have failed.
” The project which has been estimated at US$150 million will include the construction of a five star hotel, an indoor shopping mall, restaurant, 850 residential units and an 18-hole PGA standard Matkovich golf course. ”
With 80% of agricultural land not under cultivation, only 3% of agricultural land under permanent irrigation, with annual floods in parts of the country, is the kind of development Zambia needs really about luxury projects – golf courses, hotels, restaurants, football stadiums and (why not) a golf course?
Is that the quest for development, or the quest for more bling?
