Government has unearthed a scam involving the sale of over one thousand hectares of land in Kasama district of Northern Province, by some government workers.
Kasama District commissioner Kelly Kashiwa disclosed this after he inspected the land in question near Chikumanino area in Kasama district yesterday.
Speaking at the site, Mr. Kashiwa said he was disappointed to note that some government officers had taken advantage of their positions to illegally sell the gazetted government land.
Mr Kashiwa explained that the scam was unearthed after he received numerous reports from some concerned residents in the area.
The DC added that the land in question was meant for the development of various social-economic activity projects.
He revealed that it was saddening to note that some officers had illegally sold the land and apportioned it with beacons in different sizes.
Mr Kashiwa who was accompanied by several other government officials said he will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
However, when contacted for a comment, officers from the department of lands refused to comment on the matter saying that they were not allowed to issue press statements.
And Kasama municipal Council Public Relation Officer, Joseph Kapambwe, said the local authority was not aware of anything in connection with the sale of the land in question.

This DC is just a nutcase who is just inciting Kasama residents to rise against the Provincial Permanent Secretary coz all these hullaballoo is not supposed to be there as he is aware from practice that forestry department officers were genuinely given the land.
