Solwezi nurses stage a sit in protest

Share

Nurses at Solwezi General Hospital have joined their counterparts in some parts of the country to stage a sit in protest to press for improved conditions of service.

A check by ZANIS at the hospital found the nurses who had started their sit in protest on Wednesday, relaxing outside behind the outpatient department building while others were dancing and singing to pass time.

Some of the nurses talked to said they took the sit in action because government has failed to increase their uniform and housing allowances from K35,000 and K200,000 respectively.

The nurses charged that there is no material that can be bought from the K35, 000 and no house in Solwezi is rented at K200, 000.

They also alleged that some of their leave days for 2005 were never honoured and were forfeited the administration.
The protesting nurses have vowed not to go back for work until all their grievances are addressed.

The sit in protest by the nurses has paralyzed some sections at the hospital where only trainee nurses are manning the wards together with top management officials.

And top management at the hospital said the grievances by the nurses can not be solved by them as the issues are above them.

  1. This “annual event” is back with us yet again! Our administrators wud do well to plan well ahead of this cancer of Civil Servants’ strikes, more especially health workers and teachers. One will make avery big name wen a year will pass without any strike by civil servants. Maybe someone, somewhere gets something out of this??

  2. K27 billion, gone just like that! and now its the innocent patients who are getting punished for some one’s selfshness!!

  3. RB isn’t even concerned about all this cheap talk, he’s taking a nap after a sumptuous meal. He next appointment to attend to will be one of his sons. mapping out which next deal to do. Apparently they think if they get a commission after putting a good word for this foreign companies then thats not stealing since they haven’t literally dipped there fingers in the national confers. Trust me RB’s preoccupation for the next 3 yrs will be looking at how and where to get a commission. Thats why he isn’t bothered with all this small talk about strikes.

  4. Can these guys in govt do something about this annual event that is spread like bush fire than just talking about Kapoko who has already made his money. ATLANTA (May 29) — Scientists have identified a lethal new virus in Africa that causes bleeding like the dreaded Ebola virus. The so-called “Lujo” virus infected five people in Zambia and South Africa last fall. Four of them died, but a fifth survived, perhaps helped by a medicine recommended by the scientists.
