Five Namwala suspects lock up lone officer and flee

Share

Five male suspects today escaped from Namwala Police station cells in the early hours of the morning after they over-powered a lone police officer on duty.

Southern Province commanding officer, Lemmy Kajoba and District Administrative officer, Mr. Godwin Sanjase both confirmed the development to ZANIS and said the suspects allegedly picked a quarrel and became violent prompting the named police officer to go over and investigate in a bid to quell the fracas.

Mr. Kajoba explained that immediately the police officer on duty opened the door all the five suspects who were caged in one cell pulled him inside and locked the door before making their escape.
He said the lone officer could not do anything as he was locked inside the same cells.

But Mr. Sanjase said the officer should have been alert enough to determine whether the suspects were embroiled in a real fight or were merely tricking him and that he should have instead called for help from other officers to quell the alleged fight.

“It is unfortunate that the officer on duty failed to read the suspects’ mind, otherwise the escape could have been prevented,’ said Mr. Sanjase.

Meanwhile, Namwala Police have launched a man hunt for the suspects and have appealed to members of the public to help in tracking them down.

  1. I am sure it is Constable Sakala or Segeant Zulu ,Inspector Wamulyokela can not be tricked like that….

  2. Zambian office bearers have become very innovative, when it comes to making quick money. Does this officer really think that people are that stupid to buy this story or is the Zambian

police service run by the boys scouts?

  3. This is really hilarious for I just had to laugh hhe hhe hhe hhe. Anyhow, let the suspects turn themselves in and say that they were giving the Zambia Police Service a lesson to be serious next time.

    Prevention is better than cure.

  4. ( JERICHO IS FALLING DOWN.) AN OFFICER WHO IS EQIUPED ,IS DIFFERENT FROM UNEQUIPED OFFICER. ALL THIS FALLS BACK ON OUR KIND OF LEADERSHIP, THEY CAN NOT PROVIDE POLICEMEN WITH GUNS,TEAR GAS, TEZZERS ETC.

  5. Exchange between Tricked Officer and his boss
Constable: Bwana, ba ma suspects they have run away
Boss: Iwe constable walakwa, how can you let suspects run away just like this?
Constable: Bwana they were too many
    SLAP

  6. So what measures are taken against the officer who was on duty? because to me he caused the escape, this to our knowledge in Zambia is very evident that this officer was not sleepy or drunk. Iwe inspector general of police discipline your officers because this story is unprofessional. Is that what you teach babuju at Lilayi and Kanfisa? Ninkani yakango’no kudala tiziba ise.

  7. Its not right to blame the lone police officer on duty its the officer in charge to blame. How do you assign a lone officer to man a police station like Namwala. The DC should have his head examined. Infact the cop is luck that suspects only locked him up he would have ended up being killed. Namwala is one place prone to crime. The best Remmy K could help by sending extral man power. imagine if the suspects bolted with a fire arm. Under normal circumstances you cant assign alone officer to man a police station alone. Musamba is this the way you are going to man police stations around the country. Meantime hundreds of mobile officers will be deployed to monitor security at Konkola stadium on 20/06/09. But country wide no manpower available. Its not just having more officers on CB & Lsk only

  8. #21, Whilst i agree with you, why would a lone police officer even think of entering a cell full of vima criminals? Lets face it, that is being plain dull and unproffessional! Let me continue laughing!!!

  9. Utulo chikapokola.Limbi caku Chipata nichi Constable Banda. Maybe the nut was part of the plan, who knows?

  10. ….by now the policeman could be complaining that he has not yet received payment for services rendered to the 5 suspects. Let him take them to court. Hakuna matata!

  11. The criminals were just too smart. Any corp could have fallen for the idea. The fight looked so real that the corp on duty thought he would protect his job by not letting criminals kill themselves in the cell when he was on duty. Too bad it turned out that way but the idea was good.

  12. People, this story may seem funny but it’s not. Ok, I haven’t stopped laughing. But let us ask ourselves’why was the poor man alon’. This is serious. These thieves operate as gangs and this police station could have been attacked and the officer killed. And let’s face it, who among us would not have fallen for this trick? That fight might have resulted in the death of an inmate and everyone would have been up in arms demanding the cop’s head.

It’s still a funny story though!!!
