Seven Serenje pupils fined over riotous behaviour

A Magistrate court in Serenje disrict has fined Seven Serenje High School pupils for riotous behaviour.

Magistrate, Brenda Chiganda, also extended the payment of fine to 285 other pupils, who were absent from school on the day of the riot, early this month.

The court ordered each of the pupils to pay K120, 000.00 by June 30, 2009.

The seven pupils, who appeared in court, were arrested during the riot which resulted in property worth over K18, 000, 000.00 destroyed.

In passing judgment, Magistrate Chiganda said Zambia is a peaceful nation, hence riotous behavior will not be condoned.

She said the offence committed by the pupils is serious because it is retrogressive to national development efforts.

In mitigation, the pupils pleaded for leniency saying they would not repeat indulging themselves in unruly behavior.

They said they were school pupils some of whom were going to write final examinations at the end of the year to determine their future.

And some parents of the pupils, who attended the judgment, described the judgment as fair and warned their children to desist from misconduct in school.

  1. Iyo ba BOMA bali mundalama (Government should be swimming in huge sums of unexpecte money).

They seem to have raised a lot this year. Boma LTD, get some chunk of such money, especially the ones from the likes of Kopoko and Dr Miti to bail out the Health Workers instead of just intimidating them.

  2. eya ahhh its normal to chased ifwe we were expelled 4 times different skus it happens

  3. Lack of discipline will always hinder progress. It has become the norm for Zambian young people to resort to unruly behaviour as a way of venting their anger. Problems are not solved by stone throwing and property destruction. Don’t be hypnotic followers, be thinkers.

  4. Why shud those pupils who were absent on the day be charged? You guys know how to make money crookedly.

  5. numbala 5 ehe ni apopena..nice 1.. these fools should just have suspended or expelled them..they know these are pupils..were are they to get the money from???

  6. Mpompompo boys, thats what they are called. In the early 80s while i was at Mkushi sec sch, they at one time beat Malco Moffat students.

  7. Riotous behavior will not be condoned, so thats a good example to those guys out.
But GRZ the cost of damaged property is K 18,000,000.00
and you ask those naughty kids to pay K 120,000.00 x 7 each, plus those that did not report for school x 285?
You are stealing from these poor naughty kids, the total i think will be K 35,040,000.00 this day light robbery.

  8. This is not fair for how about those that rioted but have not been charged.
