Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga has called on the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to re- establish strong ties with Zambia in various areas of co- operation.
Mrs. Kapijimpanga who is also accredited to Myanmar, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Maldives says Zambia and Myanmar co- operated well during the freedom movement resulting in KOHIMA, BURMA and CHINDWIN military cantonments being named after places in Myanmar where Zambian soldiers fought.
She says Zambia can collaborate with Myanmar in the area of education such as training of legal practitioners from the University of Zambia and other tertiary institutions as that Country is in need of such services.
Mrs. Kapijimpanga also says Zambia can be of help to Myanmar in training teachers of English following the decision to make English an official language.
This came to light when Mrs. Kapijimpanga called on the Ambassador of Myanmar to the Republic of India Maung Wai in New Delhi, India.
And Ambassador of Myanmar to the Republic of India Maung Wai has praised Zambia’s desire to achieve gender equality stating that more than 65 percent of the civil service in his Country is comprised of women.
He says the restoration of civilian rule from military has now seen Myanmar start re- establishing ties with the rest of the world as his Country had cut ties with all countries during military rule including voluntary exclusion from the commonwealth.
“The Republic of the Union of Myanmar has declared English as an official language but challenges have emerged because the military rulers only allowed local languages after banning foreign languages. To this effect only a little percentage of the population especially the elderly are able to speak and understand English,” MR. Wai said.
This is according to a statement released by First Secretary Press and Tourism at the Zambian Mission in New Delhi, India, Bangwe Naviley.

Myanmar will not make English as an official language. There is no such decision.
This really will be first step in rebuilding Zambia integrated political relations for the better corporation.
I have been to Burma the country has lot of potential to tap. We support the in education and they help us with textile business with China and Thailand….this country is the centre for South East Asia Trade and Zambia can benefit there from.
