UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says unity can only be

sustained if development is evenly distributed.

Mr. Hichilema noted that there is no need to sloganeer unity without service delivery as unity is an important prerequisite to achieve development.

In an interview with ZANIS yesterday on Unity Day, Mr. Hichilema said the reason why Zambians and fore leaders fought for political independence was to attain peace so that they can unite the country and use that unity to develop the country.

The UPND President pointed out that development has to do with quality of life where people access quality education, health, clean water and have three decent meals a day.

He further pointed out that unity could be eluded if there is unfairness in the distribution of development opportunities.

Mr. Hichilema said there is need to make opportunities available to every individual if peace and unity is to be sustained.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hachilema has challenged parents to teach their children the art of hard work.

He noted that parents should make their children understand that for them to have a better life they must work hard.

He implored parents to also explain the importance of culture to their children saying people without a culture heritage have questionable characters.

  1. I like “The UPND President pointed out that development has to do with quality of life where people access quality education, health, clean water and have three decent meals a day. He further pointed out that unity could be eluded if there is unfairness in the distribution of development opportunities.” and this is where the MMD has got it all wrong.

While the MMD GRZ was supposed to concentrate on developing Zambia in the president HH above mentioned things, they are busy campaigning for 2011 elections at every opportunity. How I wished President RB Banda would take VJ Mwaanga’s words seriously instead of Min. Teta.’s.

  2. ITS AN OBVIOUS STATEMENT WHICH IS IRRELEVANT TO ZAMBIA AS ZAMBIA IS ALREADY UNITED.. GIVE US SOMETHING NEW…SIR..

  3. #4, Zambia is united, only in your dreams man. How can you have a united zambia when every news item is full of quarrels between the ruled and the ruling? Yes, we do not seem to machette each other but we are surely not United at all. Someone once told president Kaunda and I quote ” Peace is not just the absence of war “. There is no unity of purpose in MMD, in UPND/PF and in Zambia as a whole. That is why development continues to elude us. Someone is given money for roads, he steals it. Someone is given drugs to dispense to patients, drugs are stolen. Why do you think there are so many cases of cuorruption? Its because every Zambian wants to show off to another but those are not the activities of a United people. We are actually big hypocrites for we pretend to care at funerals.

  4. walai nthwenu mputi business #4 limo muleikaafye tata nga tamukwete fyakwatamo amono. What unity are you talking about when the country is divided on tribal and political lines? DO NOT CONFUSE PEACE WITH UNIT. Though as Zambians we are peaceful, but political unit has continued to elude us. Refer to the Presidential and parliamentary elections for 2006 and 2008 and see for yourself how the regional pattern shows its ugly face! That is why I for one I’m of the view that the UPND/PF pact is well meant and will bring real unity, One Zambia One Nation and thus ensure equal distribution of wealth because the President to be elected under the pact will be ACCOUNTABLE TO ALL ZAMBIANS and NOT a region. Maestro is right, lets rid off the so called Party strong holds, we are not at war

  5. HH is right! Kiyena yalukanela kubusa (literally translated – He is the one who is supposed to rule) He can redeem the country from the economic malaise of the MMD.

  6. #4, don’t pretend, Zambians are not united at all. Zambians are hypocrites who seem to care so much for each other at funerals. The truth is that Zambians are very jealous and showy. We lack a serious sense of unity of purpose that is why development has always eluded us. Take for example, drugs are bought for patients, some unscrupulous Zambians will steal and sell those drugs. Money is disbursed for roads, some Zambian will steal that money. Boooks are bought for School children, some Zambian will steal them. Where is the sense of unity on all these scams? What HH is saying is that where there is a unity of purpose, you all work together for a common goal. If it building roads, we all guard jealously against any resource pilfering. But Zambians, yah, its me, its me, its me. Hopeless!!

  7. 11 Realist greetings. Your “But Zambians, yah, its me, its me, its me. Hopeless!!“is true and it reveals why some people claim that PF self-appointed leader Sata MC (Grade 2/6, unknown) did this and that when he was Governor and Minister, but they forget that he worked under Ministers and President FTJ Chiluba (Hon Doc, Malawi) as well as in a team making whatever contribuition he made a collective thing.

I look for a time when cheap politicking will be replaced with hard work as president HH put it in “He noted that parents should make their children understand that for them to have a better life they must work hard“. Mindset!

  8. well, #4. it seem english is a hard thing for you to understand. “Mr. Hichilema said the reason why Zambians and fore leaders fought for political independence was to attain peace so that they can unite the country and use that unity to develop the country.” this means in someway, RB is not using the unity and peace of the nation to develop the country. insteady he is busy sloganeering unity without service delivery as unity unity is an important prerequisite to achieve development. said MR HH. please go back to G7.

  9. #13, Maestro, thank you for compliments on my posting. We share the same views. Well, people like Sata and the likes of Teta, Mulongoti, Chiluba, RB, etc, you can always feel pity for them. They think money and position glory makes a great man. They forget that humble people like KK, Mazoka, LPM and to some extent HH are much more respect by people than them glory seeking characters. Sata claims to have done this and that but that is not true. He worked in a team that did things and never could he have done whatever he claims alone. Why can’t he develop Zambia alone then? Why does he need a political party if he is a single handed doer? I pity their folly. Vanity, Vanity and vanity!!!

  10. 15 The Realist you are welcome and cool stuff indeed.

On “He worked in a team that did things and never could he have done whatever he claims alone. Why can’t he develop Zambia alone then? Why does he need a political party if he is a single handed doer?“, the comment is true and the questions are really honest ones.

Sadly, honourable Sata MC (Grade 2/6, unknown) really destroyed Zambia and Zambians when he was in the MMD, but his current moves with the UPND are a good indicator of his changing habits for the better. I just wish he could apologise like FDA’s Dr Ludwif Sondashi did over his failure under MMD.

This is time for real change.

  11. HH,this is what we expect from you and this is how we know you.the path you took after jumping in the boat of always throwing dung at your opponents was not going to help you.insults slowly began twisting your mouth you are handsome but slowly you were becoming ugly.so stop.continue talking sence infact your call for people to invest in the education of their children can’t be over emphasized infact tell mr lubinda to advise all those PF kaponya boys to buy insurance policies for their children they are affordable and can be of great help in future.they only need to save on a few packs of shake shake in a month.so bwana HH like this your debates with the Prof will be something to look forward to.dont slander because insults deform faces.just look at your neighbour.
