No wearing of party regalia at the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony-Police

Chief Chitimukulu

THE police command in Northern Province has warned political parties against wearing party regalia at the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony of the Bemba set for next Saturday in Kasama.

Provincial commissioner of police Richard Mweene told journalists in Kasama recently that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the ceremony is incident-free.

“We are ready for the ceremony and we will ensure that order is maintained. We do not want anyone to put on party regalia to avoid confusion during the celebrations,” he said.

Mr Mweene said the police in the province are equal to the task of maintaining law and order.

And Bemba Royal Establishment spokesperson James Mulenga said preparations for the celebrations are progressing well.

“We are just doing the final. The Zesco team has managed to construct a marquee at the main arena where invited guests will sit,” Mr Mulenga said.

He urged people travelling to the ceremony and the locals to uphold peace during the celebrations.

    • @Zambian Citizen Is it the job of Zambia police to decide what you wear! I can understand if this advice came from Chief Chitimukulu’s representative. These kind of tactics scare people from attending or even incite division. Agreeably such traditional ceremonies should not be politicised but when you have a chief from Chipata who openly declares his allegiance to PF how distinguish which ceremonies to distinguish!

    • @MB: Last time PF members attended a Mazabuka or Moonze council conference in regalia, the upnd protested and a scuffle almost broke out. It took the intervention of Local government minister Vincent Mwale to calm the situation. In my opinion, official events shouldn’t be politicised and the PF members were wrong. Equally the ZP, who are charged with security and order at this important cultural event, have acted wisely to deny anyone politicising the event because any form of political regalia is provocative and will definitely cause unnecessary and avoidable tension. And let’s not point at chiefs, what about Mukuni who has openly called hh his “son”??? It will be finger pointing and tension and no solution!!! SO ZP ARE SPOT ON, THIS DAY BELONGS TO THE BEMBA PEOPLE AND THE…
