Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people in Northern Province has called on Road Transport and Safety Agency ( RTSA) to heighten its road safety education programme in rural areas.
The traditional leader says although government has constructed a lot of roads in his chiefdom , many of his subjects were still lacking information related to road safety hence the need to sensitize them.
He added that many people in rural communities were still failing to interpret road signals especially on traffic lights.
ZANIS reports that the paramount chief said this when RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko together with his entourage called on him at his palace in Malole village in Mungwi district today.
And Mr. Soko says his office has embarked on a robust awareness programme across the country on road safety through road shows, and in areas were traditional ceremonies are taking place.
Mr. Soko has further thanked the traditional leadership in Northern Province for their tireless efforts in helping RTSA to reach out information to the general public.
He disclosed that RTSA has since reinforced patrols in Northern Province ahead of the Ukusefya Pan’gwena traditional ceremony this weekend.
