WEEKEND SCORECARD: Kamanga address Nigeria offside appeal

Share

New Football Association of Zambia president Andrew Kamanga
New Football Association of Zambia president Andrew Kamanga
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has stated that they have thoroughly studied all avenues of appeal over the disallowed goal against Nigeria.

Augustine Mulenga had his first half goal disallowed by Botswana referee Joshua Bondo before Alex Iwobi struck in the 73rd minute to hand Nigeria a 1-0 win and extinguished Zambia’s2018 World Cup dreams.

Kamanaga said his executive has consulted extensively but Article 15.6 of the FIFA rules clearly states that the referees’ decision is final.

“But the rules being what they are you cannot overturn the decision of the referee,” Kamanga said.

“The only basis is when there was external influence.

“So the referee maybe carpeted for making a wrong decision but the decision still stands and unfortunately that is where we stand.”

Kamanga said FAZ hopes CAF and FIFA will accelerate the implementation of the Video Assistant Referee that was used to relative success at the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea.

  1. KAMANGA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED ..PERHAPS HE BENEFITED SOMETHING ..REMEMBER NIGERIANS WHERE FLASHING $10,000 …….KA

  2. “The only basis is when there was external influence.

“So the referee maybe carpeted for making a wrong decision but the decision still stands and unfortunately that is where we stand.”
HOW DOES HE KNOW THAT THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL INFLUENCE…HE SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN TO FIFA, AND FIFA WAS GOING TO INVESTIGATE …

  3. Knowing the Nigerians, that ref was offered something he couldn’t refuse. The Nigerians were so desperate for a win in whichever way it came. Wherever that ref is on this world he must know that he did a very serious injustice to Zambia all because of his love for money. In the first place it was wrong for CAF to give inexperienced officials to handle a match of such magnitude. On several occasions the two assistants had to wait for the ref to blow the whistle before raising their flags even when it was very obvious to everyone where the ball was supposed to go.

  4. Guys don’t be sad, the defenders stopped playing when they heard the ref’s whistle. In the laws of the game, that goal did not exist. VAR cannot help in this circumstance. Take a chill pill and watch Nigeria at the World Cup….. I mean your betters…

    • Watching Nigeria at the World cup? They will not go far. They did not convince they have the quality to go far in the World cup. I wish Ghana was going to be there. They impress more than the Nigerians. It is a pity I cannot watch Ghana at the World cup. With more discipline among players and at the FA, Ghana can do wonders.

    • Africans never go far because their adminstration is always disorganised. The Africans also have no self belief. They go to the world cup to be also rans. We should be sending teams to those finals to win the World Cup not just to be seen as one of the teams that participated. Nigeria has had some very good teams but they often just wilt. For example the Rashid Yekini led team should have reached the semis.

  5. Senegal didn’t say what KAMANGA has said to have final say when they met Bafana Bafana and now they will be a replay on November 10th. Ghana appealed to FIFA two days ago.

It seems western Africans are more aggressive than use. Ba Kamanga if you fear FIFA, you better leave the office. I will be happy to see occupied by a fellow even from Ghana or Senegal who is serious about football

    • He fears because he knows is an offside goal . the flag was raised before the player attacked the goal .and whistle long gone. Anyway if u want a replay we can grant you because we would love to beat u again. We love beating Zambia… Super eag?es soar into russia

  6. I was in the stadium, NIGERIANS were quite as they knew we scored a clean goal. However, it was also rumoured that the ref. was bought and had kamanga filed in it was up to FIFA to remind us that the ref. decision was final, why judge urself? KALU was a man corruption free. KAMANGA was in IBOM players were never paid their allowances despite promises from home, they were told the system is down, also FAZ never paid hotel bills in Ghana they were rescued by some chap from PSMD coach used his personal money to pay for hair cuts for the players on match day SUNZU had ndevu like boo haram anyway With this kamanga we are not going anywhere, WADA is a good coach lets give him chance but please pay the players plus technical bench I HAVE PHOTOS of our players looking banjalanjala sure . We are…

    • Wada hasn’t won anything. How can he be our national team coach without proving himself somewhere? Bushe ni chintobentobe?

    • Zambia are bad loosers . learn to score less controversial goal.next time. At least we scored a clearer goal so we deserve to win. The truth is that goal was off side or it seems to be offside and u can’t blame any one for that. It looks more offside than an onside

  7. The goal was a clean goal. Just before they scored they was a foul on a Zambian player you mean we watched different games

    • This chika guy is lying to himself. It’s unfortunate he’s economical to the truth. Even kamanga did not dispute but insists that the referees decision is final. If things were like that, then south Africa and Senegal were not going to have a replay. Ba kamanga don’t betray us.

  8. Zambians, we are your friends. Nigeria deserve to qualify. They were obviously the more experienced and enterprising team. Encourage your boys to always strive to play a European leagues. There, they will have the opportunity to play with the big boys and learn a lot. I love your boys. They tried; but they were technically inferior. They are the team for the future, if they can keep it up.

    • The ones who are inferior are those that think you need to play in European Leagues and be coached by a European in order to be successful.

    • Africans! Cant we do our own thing for once? Why does a white man have to teach us everything? Who gave us the mentality that we can only succeed if we imitate Europeans? That is thought control making us believe we are helpless if there is no Europe

  9. I watched the game and frankly didn’t notice any bias. We have individually skilled players but have serious issues with decision making and awareness – especially around the penalty area. That Nigerian team was there for the taking but we have no one else to blame but ourselves.

  10. Kamanga just appeal b4 the window closes and Leave the rest to FIFA …U will lose nothing. As for Nigeria I wish you the world’s most biased referee at the World Cup and hope u come back soonest at the World Cup… By the way am supporting a clean team like Egypt.

    • Sorry .. The eagles are flying. And u bad loosers will never get to smell the world cup. The goal is an offside one .that’s y u can’t appeal. Even at that it doesn’t change the outcome. U would still have lost anyway. Never u knew Zambia were such bad loosers.

  11. Mr Kamanga the right to appeal is enshrined in all matters as serious as this- what does International Law say regarding sporting events??? If the FIFA route is tricky to use then find another route, what and how have other countries managed to win their appeal cases? Furthermore this reminds me of the FIFA World Cup 1998 qualification match against Morocco where our boys where stoned when playing away even then FIFA let us down, what the motive behind such acts? Why should the so called big names always find their way to the World Cup where they always fail to perform???

    • Off side is offside ur player is suppose to have been given a card for continuing play when the whistle has long been blown… Bad loosers !!!

  12. How does Kamanga interpret the referee error, when he awarded an erroneous penalty, in a South Africa vs Senegal game which FIFA has ordered to be replayed? Should we suffer someone’s incompetence or errors just because we cannot qualify external influence!!!! Shame…

  13. Cowards can’t stand up for what is theirs. If it was offside then offside is only one sided not the other team. Some decisions suite well when they do not affect you negative but if you are the one involved the 150 Millions plus would be making noise all over.

  14. I think the refs decision is subject to review on appeal. As it stands however Nigeria won. If we lodge an appeal and win the case a replay can called. Its presumptious for our FAZ boss to play the judge. I think its worth a try. That ref can be dealt with by FIFA.. I think the technical starting line up cost as the game. Until we dedide to appeal CONGRATS to the Super Eagles

  15. You just don’t know how phrase the letter of appeal. South Africa have been ordered to replay the game against Senegal and the referee of the first game banned for life. So don’t cheat.

  16. That was a clean and clear goal. I watched the game and I was disappointed at the referee’s decision.
As Zambians we have been taken for granted like a bull dog without teeth to bite with. Kamanga if you really mean well for Zambia and you have done extensive analysis of that goal and proved that indeed it was a goal then appeal or risen from your position as FAZ president!

  17. If the Zambian officials’ hands are ‘clean’, they should appeal against that decision. Why fear to appeal when it is so obvious that that was blatant ‘error’.

  18. Iwe Kamanga..what evidence did FIFA have that the ref in the S.A v Senegal game had external influence? Ahhh this Zambian mentality of being apologetic sucks big time..really disgusting!! Appeal even for the heck of it so that refs can start fearing to make looney decisions! That goal could have changed everything!!

  19. Mr Kamanga, our coaches are for under 23, 20, & under 18s that so, find a sponsor who can pay an expatriate for the senior national team, you’ll see the difference.

  20. what are these Nigerians doing on our social platform?we are advising our FA CEO to appeal and their you are again. Is it your problem if we want to appeal?. Anyways you can rant all you want but remember what goes around comes around.See u in Russia.

    • That guy keeps saying Zambians are bad losers. There are also bad winners. These are big heads who think once you have won you still have the obligation to go kick the fallen guy.

  21. Kamanga is right. We lost fair and square. The ref made a mistake and it was not in our favor. That is the beauty of soccer, you lose some you win some. We are behind Nigeria at the world cup and hopefully they reach the semi -finals so that Africa can be allocated more spots, which might work in our favor.

  22. I am a Nigerian. Yes some Nigerians are corrupt and same applies to every other country. Was he offside, honestly i’m still trying to trace the line cos he appeared just inches onside (but very close though). However the whistle went immediately he got the ball and the momentum dropped from there. I think Zambian FA could still make an official plea to FIFA (never knew Senegal would ever have been considered). In all I guess its just all part of football. The honest truth is that Most African FAs are messed up but we suddenly forget about their mess when the players on their own begin to get results and we think everything is fine all of a sudden (including Nigeria). Lets just hope the African teams going to the world would at least be well motivated to go past the round of 16. God bless…

  23. Made in Nigeria is very honest, thanks for coming out loud and clear. We do not want to sound like everything was right when a wrong is there. Call a spade a spade! Thanks for your honest big man! If something is wrong better point it out, the Zambian commentator was silent even when a clear cut goal was scored, never spoke about it!! Why not blow the whistle when he started off? Even then how do you call an offside when there was two defenders in front of striker? What kind of football do you watch in Botswana guys? My suggestion is: Bring in international referees to handle some of the games to avoid poor officiating.

  24. Three things. First the offside ruling was correct.
Second, the player that “scored” should have been yellow carded for going ahead even though the whistle had gone way before his attempt on goal.
Third, Nigeria also had a similar situation where the player was actually on side but was ruled offside, but unlike the Zambian player Iwobi just simply ran back to his position without any fuss.
If we were considering offside rulled opportunities as goals, Nigeria would be 2-0 ahead and Zambia would have another player carded.
