Zanaco batter City to go second

Defending champions Zanaco have moved within earshot of leaders Green Buffaloes after demolishing City of Lusaka on Wednesday to sneak into second position.

Zanaco crushed bottom placed City 4-1 at home in the two sides rescheduled Week 29 match.

However, City made a false start while Yanganile Tembo rattled the champions with the opener in the 13th minute.

But Heritier Nkonko leaved up to the tag of super-sub when he scored a hat-trick for Zanaco after he came on for Adamson Mulao in the 22nd minute.

Nkonko equalised in the 33rd minute to see the two sides go 1-1 into the break.

He completed his hat-trick after the break that was sandwiched by Ernest Mbewe’s 66th minute goal.

Mbewe will also feel justice was done after his 21st minute effort was ruled out for offside.

Zanaco move from 4th to 2nd and have 54 points, two behind Buffaloes with less than nine games left.

City on the other hand are last with 11 points from 29 games played after suffering their eighth successive league defeat.
