Zambia U20 to defend COSAFA U20 Cup crown in Kitwe

The Zambia Under-20 team will defend their COSAFA U20 Cup title in Kitwe.

FAZ has revealed that the regional eight-team tournament will be staged in Zambian footballs’ hotbed this December.

Record 12-time league champions Nkana and their archrivals Power Dynamos home grounds of Nkana Stadium and Arthur Davies Stadium will be the host venues for the 2017 COSAFA U20 Cup.

Draws and official dates for the tournament will be announced later by COSAFA.

Zambia are chasing an unprecedented 12th COSAFA U20 Cup title after beating 2016 hosts South Africa 2-1 in last year’s final held in Rustenburg.

What you are saying simply vindicates those of us who have noticed a historic tendency of successive Zambian governments to favour Lusaka and Ndola at the expense of this country’s second largest city – Kitwe. The two stadia in Kitwe may appear dilapidated, but Kitwe has a far much richer football tradition than the two either Lusaka or Ndola. Kitwe is the home of Power Dynamos which, apart from winning five league titles, is the only Zambian club to have won a continental trophy – the Mandela Cup. Nkana United is not only one of the oldest clubs – having been founded in 1935 – but has won the largest number of leagues titles in Zambia’s football history. 2. . Nkana United is not only one of the oldest clubs – having been founded in 1935 – but has won the largest number of leagues titles in Zambia’s football history. Kitwe also produced the first two Zambian soccer professionals – Emment Kapengwe from Kitwe United and Freddie Mwila from Rhokana United. The legendary prolific scorer – Godfrey Chitalu – was a product of Kitwe United. Need I say more?

  3. Football is made in Kitwe in Zambia! @3, you are right! It is time we built a new stadium or two in Kitwe!

  4. @Anyoko was stating a fact, that those stadia are a disgrace to host international competitions. The motivations from @Facts and @Sharon that follow for a new stadium in Kitwe are irrelevant. “Kitwe deserves a new stadium because Kitwe has a far richer soccer history than Ndola and Lusaka”???. The counter motivation would be Kitwe does NOT deserve a stadium because the fans in Kitwe score a perfect 10 on the “unruly scale.”
