President Rupiah Banda yesterday launched the Levy Patrick Mwanawasa Centre of the Great Lakes Region for promotion of good governance, human rights and civic education.
President Banda, who has taken over the Chairmanship of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, launched the Centre in Lusaka during the third International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Summit, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
President Banda disclosed that a place has already been found where the Centre would be constructed.
He said at least 58 Chief Executives, who are civil servants, have been attached to the Centre’s Secretariat to implement and domesticate issues in the Great lakes Region pact on security, stability and development.
And speaking at the same function, United Nations Development Programme Country Representative McLeod Nyirongo welcomed the launch of the Centre and pledged to support it in enhancing good governance in Zambia and in the entire Great Lakes Region.
He expressed confidence that the Pact on security, stability and development will be implemented for the benefit of the people in the Great Lakes Region.

People are suffering and you are still using Mwanawasa’s name to gain political support, what a shame! why is zambia a member of great lakes? Guys look at issues at hand and have nation stabilised. Our leaders have no direction, look at Kunda, Ka Mulongoti, Shawa na tumbi tukabolala and not forgetting election manipulator Vernon Mwanga. Please set down and let the young ones with fresh minds rule Zambia. By the way leave Magande alone. Where on earth would a president not challenged?
Greetings #1 Real Democrat
While I agree with you that personal gain is always on top of the politician’s agenda, we as a nation must not forget to honour our forerunners like LPM. In this sense, I fully acknowledge and welcome the launching of the centre.
Mr Rupiah Banda, you oldman are just thanking late Mwanawasa for the favour of salvaging you from your desert-like farm. May I remind you that by what he did the late president did a disservice to the nation because you Mr Banda have been on a honeymoon in state house and messing up the whole country.
Following “President Banda, who has taken over the Chairmanship of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, launched the Centre in Lusaka during the third International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Summit, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre“, It would have been nice to report that the Great Lakes Region meeting has been poorly attended probably due to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shikapwasha’s reference to the Rwanda Genocide and Foreign Minister Mpande’s support of Sudanese leader Al-Bashir? with Presidet RB Banda’s support for Zimbabwean leader Mugabe and embrassing Mr F Chiluba.

4 continued.
As if that was not enough, the MMD cadres’ attacks on journalists and harrassment of MMD MP Magande who wants to try the MMD presidency and subsequently Zambian Presidency are seemingly shocking to the outside world who may be taking Zambia as not safe or inspiring in terms of democratic practice.
Anyway, let us see what the LP Mwanawasa thing will do for Zambia and the rest of the GLR.
Have a blessed day all.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
There are a lot of institutions to be named after late Levy Patricl Mwanawasa. Attaching 58 Chief Executive Officers to implementing such a project wont be a misplacement of man hours and the lito resources available. By the way we have not heard anything from RB on his Minister Ronnies assault on the Catholic Church. Its really sad that whenever Churches make constructive critisim the Clergy are told off to form own political parties. Was the assault from Ronnie necessary or the man was just day dreaming had nothing to say to impress his Master that he is working Minister. The Church has been longer than the MMD GRZ and it will be there even after MMD has ceased being a ruling party. Ronnie should learn to kip cool his head and make well reaserched statements as REV & Politician in GRZ
On this one I will support RB and I hope it will take off. LPM made us proud on his stand on Zimbabwe. It was only him and Ian Khama the president of Botswana who stood up to the dictator Mugabe while the other presidents in SADC folded their tails between their legs. LPM deserves to be named after a new institution not to be named after an old institution that is tainted with some reputations of sorts. Rest in eternal peace LPM.
This dream is good but laughable bcause ther’s no democracy and no human rights in Zambia.
hahahahaaahaha……………………….a what? this is a joke
RB too much affiliations and too much outgoing will not solve Zambia’s problems. Does Zambia want to be a part of any regional grouping? Some of which do not even make sense. SADC maybe all you need for Gods sake. Focus on your Indaba and manifecto. We ‘re watching.
#10, I agree with you, Zambia thrus our myopic leadership can not choose what is good for us… we member of comesa, SADC, Great lake Regions.. it is sad. We waste our resources allocating pipo to be involved in all these bodies. Only SADC makes sense as RSA, a regiona power house is part of..
According to the Post Newspaper Tetamashimba was flown to South Africa on Sunday for medical treatment, no wonder he has been quiet for a while.
Let the so-called Legacy be cleared of corruption coz we dont want to start renaming structures if the guy was also corrupt !
According to my findings Teta is live & Kicking. He is touring the councils country wide explaining on the usefulness of the hearses. Get it from me.

Maestro Hakucincha, Those factors you have mentioned are even scaring tourists from Zambia. I really dont know whether the decisions arrived at at the GLR Summit will be welcomed fully by the coutries that werent represented by Heads of State.
Toad Face opens his mouth and then puts his foot in it. How can he praise this dimunitive former bus conductor turned President as a very good man? Would Levy have the same words for Chiluba? The man is facing court charges of very serious crimes against the people of Zambia. Is he now writing a character reference for Chiluba??
Is this the legacy of Mwanawasa?? ”Levy Patrick Mwanawasa Centre of the Great Lakes Region for promotion of good governance, human rights and civic education.” What good governance?? Beating Journalists??Jailing them on tramped up charges???
Please Banda what will you be remembered off
imwe kindly remind me,wen is mwanawasa’s memorial???????????//
Yes RB will be remembered for bing the most generous Presido who authorised better pay and conditions of service consitutional office bearers, MPs and other TOP GRZ officials and secondly for allowing MMD cadres for hunting down journalists and lastly not least for seeking simple treatment for himself and his friends in South Africa.
Great Lakes blah blah blah….. Who are the members of this organisation? Just wondering for RB to be their chairman..
You understand thus considerably in relation to this matter, made me individually imagine it from numerous numerous angles. Its like women and men don’t seem to be fascinated unless it’s something to accomplish with Woman gaga! Your individual stuffs great. All the time deal with it up!
