Namibia target another big kill against Zambia

Namibia coach Ricardo Mannetti has told his charges to show the same character against Zambia that they have displayed in their opening Group B games at 2018 CHAN.

Zambia and Namibia clash in a top two Group B decider after both qualified to the January 27 quarterfinals with a game to spare.

Chipolopolo lead Group B on 6 points, tied with Namibia who are second only on goal difference.

But they face a Namibia side that has made a dramatic CHAN debut.

Namibia beat Uganda and Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in similar fashion after stealing the three points deep into stoppage time of the 90 minutes.

“We knew that we were facing strong teams in the first two games and Zambia won’t be any different,” Mannetti said.

“In both games we thought maybe we would take a draw and fight it out with Zambia, but the boys dug deep and got the goals in added time, which makes it special.

“Facing Zambia, we have to keep to the tactics on the day and see how far we can go with our plan for the game.”

Namibia have won three of their last four meetings against Zambia under Mannetti.

And Group B winner on Monday night will travel back to Marrakech to face Sudan who finished second in Group A.

The loser will stay in Casablanca to play hosts and Group A winner Morocco this Saturday.

Meanwhile, tonight’s match in Casablanca will be the first of two meetings between the two sides over the coming three months.

Zambia will travel to Windhoek in March on match-day-two of the 2019 AFCON Group K qualifiers.

Namibia and Zambia are on zero points in Group K after losing by the same 1-0 score lines away to Guinea Bissau and at home against Mozambique respectively last June.
