LCC to demolish illegal car washes on Chilimbulu and Burma roads

Share

.Lusaka City Council (LCC) will today swing into action and demolish all illegal car washes on Chilimbulu and Burma Roads.

LCC Spokesperson Henry Kapata said in an interview in Lusaka today that the Council will not hesitate to deal with all illegal operations in the city.

Mr. Kapata said the local authority will not issue any warning letters to the proprietors of the car washes because the owners are aware that their activities were in defiance of the law.

He said the council had embarked on a road expansion programme on the two roads adding that the programme cannot be disturbed by people who illegally own car washes along the two roads.

Mr. Kapata has said the Lusaka City council is disappointed with the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) and the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company for connecting power and water respectively, to the illegal car washes along the two roads without verifying the legal status of the premises.

He said it was important for the two institutions to be in consultation with the local authority before doing business on premises that fall under the jurisdiction of the council.

Meanwhile the Lusaka City Council has said Government has released K1.6 billion towards the streets lighting programme.

LCC Spokesperson Henry Kapata said the council has already started electrifying some streets that fall under its jurisdiction.

  1. Some should sue you for depriving them of an income if you demolish those car washes.
The guys are trying to make an honest living you hypocrite

  2. Iwe Kapata bazakulowa bantu, wabilingana sana you are not the only patriot in Lsk.These people have not come from nowhere, the first person to start a well established car wash on Burma is that Plot 1 chap who allegedly is a senior GRZ official,so what do you expect the rest to do.Meanwhile, these same car wash owner pay ma K200.000 monthly to the Council,so what are you yapping ; you koswe!

  3. Ba Kapata mwalipena a month ago pipo were complaining about the car wash which is near kabwata Estates along Burma Road, imwe you supported that man that it was the council that gave him the right to build the car wash. what are you saying today. Bakaminyesha pa ndalama shabene mwalya.

  4. Provide alternative for these people instead of just demolishing or destroying their businesses. Take advantage of their initiative and make revenue out of them to continue developing Lusaka. You see problem NAIMWE BALI MU Autholity you suffer from “PULL THEM DOWN SYNDROME”. BANZANU BAKAYAMBA KU DEVELOPA NA GENUINE BUSINESS IMWE NIKU BAGWESA instead of supporting such initiatives. Where do you think those employed there will find employment again. You have failled to create employment and as if that is not enough you are now busy destroying TUNTEMBA TWAMENE TU creater employment. MORE JOBS NA MORE MONEY IN THE POCKET IZANKALA REALITY BWANJI KANSI. Dont pull them down give them altenative sight so that together we grow as a nation. SEMBE NIBA CHITE BAJA NAYIBALA NA DALA SEMBE AT ITS OK

  5. You show us the contract for the road expansion and when the contractor moves on site you can relocate them. Some of those car wash places are clean and convinient. Council chaps are just failures always after people who want to develop. You clean up lusaka city centre. Remove vendors from Lumumba road……stop giving land to fake investors building substandard building in the middle of town then you can go after the Zambian who has a car wash.

  6. Typical Zambian reaction: destroy, why we can’t think of ways to help these people legalise their businesses, allowing them to continue as small scale entrepreneurs: By the way those guys are good; I never knew it was possible to wash a whole vehicle squeaky clean with only one bucket of water!

  7. Our country will never develop. The Council should take an advantage of the car washes. The best is to provide them with licences and let them pay levy. It could be a source of income in this hard time. They also need to survive and we should be proud that they have created somehow employment. LCC let that be your revenue generating oppotunity. I do not think there are a nuisence!!!!! Just call a meeting with them and strike a balance

  8. LCC , this Ba kill joy , why do you want to destroy pipos bread and butter, atleast give them alternatives, ASAP, if they dont take them , then destroy.

  9. This is real hypocricy at it’s best. Just like the other comments why now?? Just beacuse the govt has changed? i think we need to live in reality and not hide in bad govt policies. why has it beacame an issue now when they’ve been trading for years? Legalise them and let them pay all the necessarily levies etc and these car wash owner are helping the under priviledged with at least ka employment. Demolishing them is the not the best solution to my opinion.

  10. Why not help these businesses expand and introduce them to our Waterless Technology. They can create jobs, generate income, pay taxes and then also save water and protect the Enviroment and help Zambia to save water to Warming. We would loike to produce our products in Zambia creating jobs for Factory workers,Sales people and Carwash owners. With this product you can clean a car inside a building on a carpet no power no water and absolutely no mess. The future lies and wait. [email protected] for more info.
