Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya has clarified that government has not banned travels for the President, government leaders and civil servants but is merely trying to manage the process so that the country gets maximum benefits from such travels.
Addressing Journalists at her office in Lusaka yesterday , Ms Siliya who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services said the travels are necessary for the work of government and that travels will be restricted to those with comparative advantage and benefits for the country.
Last week Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe announced that President Edgar Lungu had introduced several new austerity measures in an effort to address the country’s worsening debt crisis.Among the austere measures introduced were a cut down on ministerial travels.

Kaya? By 2021, the nation will be an empty coffin with this lot in power.
And so the failure of new austerity measures commenced. One should learn not to be too expectant of the PF led by one humbly Dumbly
Next she will say Government has not banned travels for the President and civil servants….do you not know that Ministers are Public Officers just like civil servants…plus the president can not attend a junction abroad with ministers!!
Does anything concrete come out of the PF s mouth pieces I wonder? today the government has banned something and a few days later they contradict themselves. how can we have confidence in a government that is like a merry go wrong no cordination no plans. You people are paid by the people thus you are accountable to the people. issue statements when you are all agreeable on the subject please.

Cut down travels does not mean stopping travelling, it means reduction.
Remember travelling for meetings is part of the job for the president, Ministers and some civil servants.
Which job? Collecting proceeds of corruption in foreign banks?
I don’t any contradition between the ministers. They are saying the same things. Cutting down travel and reducing travel is the same.
And yet only a fortnight ago these are the same muppets who claimed Zambia is not in a worsening debt crisis. Anyway. this man clearly said he has zero plan for the country but he was ushered into office, now we know he had one all the time, to empty our coffers and them embark on an indiscriminate borrowing spree. This will terach Zambnians a lesson, you all deserve every bit of this calamitous stupidity playing out in your corridords of power, nyoo mu lukehile linja tuni.

Travelling for a leader is important especially if the leader is going to announce bilateral agreements. Unfortunately for Lungu and PF, they use travelling to earn allowances. Zambian Civil servants when serving abroad lack confidence and fail to negotiate deals that advantage Zambians. I am talking from experience, half the time their are clueless as to the task at hand.
There are dozen BIT already signed waiting to be ratified.
Which BIT has been signed and ratified in the last seven years?
Wonder what is your “experience” in the matter? Applauding and approving the non-existing performance?
So exactly what austerity measures are we talking about. Does it mean these measures will be selective and who will do the selecting?
