Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has cautioned Zambian diplomats serving in missions abroad against the use of social media as their source of information about their country.

Mr. Kampyongo noted that social media is full of falsehood, hence the need for people in the diaspora to countercheck the information posted on such platforms before taking them seriously.

He stated that contrary to what people read on social media, Zambia is peaceful and that all developmental programs are being rolled out properly.

The Minister advised the Zambians serving in missions abroad and others in the diaspora to ensure that they represent the country well by being above reproach.

He also encouraged them to follow the right channel of communication when making consultations on l matters relating to the nation as opposed to using social media to voice out their concerns.

The minister was speaking this morning when he called on the Zambian Acting head of mission in Geneva, Switzerland Margaret Kaemba, where he also met Zambia delegations on various working visits to that country.

The Home Affairs Minister met and addressed the Zambian delegation on property acquisition and another delegation attending a conference on tobacco trade.

Mr. Kampyongo is in Geneva Switzerland to attend the 69th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees which opened yesterday and is slated to close this Friday

  1. Kampyongo is in Geneva. Sadly the people he is meeting with at one point stayed at Lusaka Hotel and used to see him selling fake dollars. They are wondering how on earth Zambia still exists. What do Zambians breath?

    • And Kapyongo stands up to introduce himself that he is minister from a country???
That ministry has been vacant ever since Edgar received instrument of power, by random lucky, jackpot.

    • I think that was unnecessary rant from Kampongo.

Unfortunately Social media is something he has to embrace because regulations of it will never tame it.

I find it difficult to explain though why people have Facebook. Its is the worst thing once can do, aside from LinkedIn and Twitter, the rest are unworthy having?

      Thanks

    • Alright minister. We will let go of social media and go back to beating drums as a means of communication. Make sure you find some real big drums, minister. Beat them hard so we can hear them across the seas, so we can have pure truth from there. Beat them. Beat them hard minister. Beat them drums.

    • Kampyongo, this is very shameful and embarrassing! Can’t you talk about issues of substance? The people you were addressing are more educated and better informed than you are. They know what is fake news and what is real news. Clueless guy this one is.

    • The PF00Lish Minister says Diasporans are their enemies. Soon they’ll have so many enemies due to their economic failure, over-borrowing theft of state coffers & importation of Chinese.

    • Shut up you thief…everything that comes out of this fools mouth is garbage. I truly wait for his time to go to jail.

    • @Nostradamus
I hear that your comments and those comments from @jayjay caused the kwacha to depreciate that is kampyongo is worried

    • Don’t worry Mr. Minister! We know about Larry Mweetwa, BoSpakata and some demonic chap! We are also aware about Galu Watchers in Zambia! We know about the FAKE news and as adults we can tell! Thank you for reminding us though! It is CHILDISH and he is a god of the COALITION OF THE WICKED.

    • Kapyongo who are you kidding when the whole world watched you and your PF thugs break into HH s house to steal his money and then charge him with treason. Upto today HH s money has not been recovered and the case is sitting idle in court becsuse Lungu knows all the evidence is against his regime

Under your watch Kapyongo, UPND supporters and those critical of Lungu and Kaiser s plunder of donor funds have been persecuted. Is that what you call being peaceful?

Kids wearing UPND T shirts have been killed in cold blood by PF thugs sponsored by you with impunity and you id1ot of a thieving minister call it peace? To me this shows how mad PF thugs are.

Any peaceful protest is quashed under your instruction and you call that peace, you devil? Really?

Peace is not the abscence of…

    • Any peaceful protest is quashed under your instruction and you call that peace, you devil? Really?

Peace is not the abscence of war. Peace is the abscence of any form of human right abuses. Peace is entails citizens ability to enjoy freedom of assembly and expression. Peace is devoid of any form of intimidation by the state.

UN US and Amnesty international have documented all the abuse on innocent Zambians carried out by your PF dogs, and you tell us its all fake news.

Wait, it will be more fake news you are taken out by force. I promise you, this coming because most Zambians are fed up with PFs brutality and embezzlement.

      Lungu must go

  2. But surely ministers shouldn’t be politicians. My be pipo who understand the machine. I understand each ministry has technocrats in the ranks but in the end the minister has the final say.

    • Even your children won’t agree with your medieval thinking. What does democracy mean to you, if I may ask and why did we get rid of KK in 1991?
U.S. president Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) defined democracy as: «Government of the people, by the people, for the people» Democracy is by far the most challenging form of government – both for politicians and for the people. The term democracy comes from the Greek language and means “rule by the (simple) people”.
Don’t push your luck too far.

    • Alright Mr. minister here is another way for you to communicate truth to us. Again we’ll let go of social media and go back to jumping up and down till the ground begins to vibrate. We’ll put our ear to the ground over here, and you Mr. minister has to jump up and down over there in Zambia to vibrate the ground all the way to us here overseas. For a TEST, jump up and down 5 times to say H.E.L.L.O to us. Make sure the ground is vibrating. Now go Mr. minister…Jump! Jump! jump! jump! Juuuuuump!!!!!!!! Hello? You still there Mr. minister? We can’t hear the vibrations. Alright, seems we might as well go back to social media.
In some other news, Zambia Daily Mail has begun to publish articles in Mandarin, a Chinese language to cater to the Chinese community. Lungu’s clueless team…

    • … should go to China and tell the Chinese national newspapers to start publishing articles in Bemba or Nyanja to accommodate the Zambians living there. China will laugh at them and then tell them to learn Mandarin or be quiet. Unfortunately, from the look of things, Mandarin will soon be Zambia’s national language.

    • @ Yangu
When it comes to the Endemically Corrupt Leader and the rest of Plunderers Federation, it is safe to say that current is “Government of the crooks, by the crooks, for the crooks”!!!

  3. The government uses social media to communicate, Amos Chanda fired kabanshi and postmaster general on facebook, Amos said the president constituted an enquire 4 months ago over the SCTgate on facebook, Dora is busy tweeting about fuel………the list goes on. Why should you stop people from using social media? Really laughable

  4. Hope you didn’t give your place at katondo street away, very soon you will need it. Ukala fwala na suite iyo yine pa kuchinga indalama

    • After a stint in Chimbokaila for plunder, T3rror1st Helicopter stoning acts in Shiwan’gandu, 42 Wheelbarrows, & State House escorted Mukula.

  5. Mushota for the first time you have talked about something sensible.
Nice to see that you are coming back to you normal senses

  6. Ministers should be technocrats who have undergone thorough academic vetting and lifestyle scrutiny at the expense of retrogressive politicians who can hardly weigh options but always coming out gun-blazing to defend their employer at the slightest sense of provocation.
No wonder the surge of of highhanded leadership almost six decades after independence in majority of our African countries.

  8. Which right channels of communication or where to we counter-check? With Dora? Amos? ZNBC? Daily Nation? Times of Zambia? Daily mail? Which government programs are rolling out well. Social Cash transfer? Already, just in the same breath you are lying? Effect the right to access information bill. We Will see the King’s nakedness. For now, we are a reliable source of information.

  9. Kampyongo you are a liar. Things are terrible here in Zambia. We are chocked with very high cost of living.
Zambia is a failed state now.

  10. He has a point. There is a lot of bantustamers puting out lots of untruths. They start from haluza to watchdog, & 90%of bloggers here. All with one plan in mind – the 6 times elusive power.

    • A lot of BoSpakata fake news is from the Tribal Clan of Galu Watchers in Zambia and the evil man who Zambians have rejected five times because they Ha Fake.

    • Sharon are you Lungu s prostitute? Sorry for asking but your id1otic defence of Lungu and his PF thugs proves that you are indeed a beneficiary of not only Lungu s stolen cash but also his crown jewels.

Give me only 10 reasons why I should not think you are indeed Lungu a prostitute?

  11. Ubupuba tabwayafya nsendelo, Alainsoni ebuntu. bakampyongo mukaye kuli banoko senge bakayeku sambako ubupuba bumo. which fora do you want to get trusted news ? Had they not rigged the elections we would had an economist running the country not disbarred lawyer …..

Sorry but without social media Twitter we wouldn’t have read about UK High Commissioner confirming reports of the withdrawal of aid because of misappropriation of money meant for social security. Your government spent days lying and denying Africa Confidential reports about the issue.

Unfortunately you have completely lost our trust and I would rather get my news from social media than listen to your propaganda mouthpieces in ZNBC, Daily Mail, and Daily Nation. Your boss Lungu doesn’t hold any press conferences instead sending liars like Dora Siliya and pompous ‘Social Mobility’ Amos Chanda and Saturday Chanda to lie for him.

Eswatini land scandal it was through social media… all the scandals in fact. You closed The Post and what’s left now is social media. Please STFU and…

  14. “Mr. Kampyongo noted that social media is full of falsehood, hence the need for people in the diaspora to countercheck the information posted on such platforms before taking them seriously.”
I find this statement full of wisdom which the educated masses here have failed to grasp. Kampyongo is not saying stop reading social news but rather counter check before believing it. Its true 9 out of 10 stories posted here are fake thats why alot of credible people have stopped commenting on this media. LT is now full of under5 kids who will soon render this site defunct.

    • @ little PF D*ck Head

With who they shall check? Fat Cow Dorita, Chinese Times of Zambia, Daily Liars, CNBC, Daily Crap, Sunday Chanda, Mad Cow Sharon, you……………?

  15. The minister is right.
We should always check our facts.
Unfortunately, those in the diaspora cant verify their sources in the same way as those of us on the ground.

    WARNING
if today you think social must be a platform to insult government, wait for the day when social media will be used against you.
As for the UPND,we know they will never RULE Zambia. Let them continue tarnishing the image of Zambia coz that’s all they can do.
Zambia has and will never be a beautiful country just because of one tribe or one leader.
In fact leaders come and go.
    Its a beautiful country always.

    • HAZALUZA HAGAIN! He is unelectable! He is unlikable! He is tribal and that is why Zambians cannot elect him! He will continue to issue falsehoods with his clan and the goodness is that it has helped us to know the fake people and how they reason. Everything that Gay Jay says is what HH thinks! And everything that BoSpakata says is what the clan thinks! Imagine such people in offices! God bless Mother Zambia!

  16. But what choice do we have. The government media & their cronies won’t print the truth. Even so called independent media are either suppressed threatened or closed down so where else can we get our information from.

  17. Boss we all know that u are on duty don’t forget to tell them that fuel in particular petrol is at k16.00 plus.

  18. Yes , what choice do we have when lungu is afraid of giving any free press conference where questions bothering the nation are answered ?

We only see lungu ever talking to the PF press on airport tarmacs. In NY we understand he dodged BBC and CNN requests to appear on their stations for fear of being asked about his stealing ways…

  19. Misguided tribalists that toe an imperialist agenda for regime change in their interests. Now speaking carelessly negatively about your own country has come to roost. High fuel, transport and food prices due to loss of investor confidence in your Govt, economy and Currency. Meanwhile those you follow blindly in maligning your own country live comfortably in Mansions and care less what happens to the country and it’s citizens as long as their paymasters are happy with their agenda. Tribalism is a disease of the mind.

  20. Online media is here to stay, like it or not!!!! Its the most effective way of accessing latest news and all..imwe tata ba Kampyongo you have no idea how important it is to most people living in diaspora. Its good to know that even your ineffective embassy staff are depending on it..great news!!!
