Hoisting of national flag symbolizes end of colonial rule-Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says the hoisting of the national flag is a symbolic representation of the end to an imperialist reign and subsequent triumph by indigenous people over an oppressive minority rule.

President Lungu said the event also represents the country’s resolve to forge ahead as a self-determined and liberated people to embrace a new and inclusive governance under the motto of ‘One Zambia One Nation.’

The President was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Defense Minister, Davies Mwila who led hundreds of Zambians in hosting of the national flag to mark Zambia’s 54th independence anniversary in Lusaka last night.

Zambians clad in national colors filled the showgrounds to witness the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag.

Traditional dances and performances were exhibited showcasing Zambia’s historical emblems and were spiced up by Defense choirs from various barracks across the country.

At 23:59 hours the Defense Minister descended from his VIP seat to the playing field to lead the jubilant crowd into a countdown of the hoisting of the flag.

The raising of the flag was accompanied by the National Anthem, blowing of vuvuzelas and beating of drums while all lights were switched off.

The display of fireworks in the air was one of the spectacular things to watch as the skies were lit and colored.

This year’s hosting of the national flag at midnight marks 54 years from the time Zambia gained its independence from the British rule on October 24, 1964.

    • Why do we have black and green on our national flag? nations with green on their flags are the most poorly managed in the world, anybody to prove my hypothesis wrong?

    • You shoiuld have asked the mzungu lady who designed your national flag before she died last year aged 87.

  1. Today is a special day for real Zambians, not those other citizens of T Hacks tri.b.al kingdom.

  2. Independence is not in national symbols but how the majority of Zambians feel at heart and it’s translation into action. Otherwise, they may just be looking forward to another liberation. Long live Zambia!, Long live true patriots of conscious , long live modern day freedom fighter of mother Africa.

  3. 54 yrs of mismanagement by a few crooks, why talk of freedom when pf has stopped it and in bed with the new masters the Chinese.

  4. I have seen a lot of Chinese national flags in Chinese companies here in Zambia, is it lawful for them to do so? I’m only seeking to know.

    • Yeah it’s red and yellow like the upnd colors and they are doing fine economically.
