Kabwe Mayor, Raphael Musonda has appealed to the church to help build the country on a strong spiritual foundation to promote respect for national leaders.
Mr. Musonda said that the growing trend of citizens insulting national leaders was disappointing and needed spiritual intervention hence the need for the church to take an active role to reverse the trend.
He said this in Kabwe yesterday during the ordination of three pastors, three deacons and one social worker at the Rock of Hope Assemblies Ngungu chapel.Mr Musonda noted that if insults are allowed, Zambia is likely to lose respect within Africa and the world over.He expressed worry over the attitude of politicians who fail to support each other and instead spend their time insulting at the expense of discussing developmental issues.
Meanwhile, Mr. Musonda has challenged church leaders to have passion to lead and guide the flock in a manner that would help transform Zambia into a real Christian nation. He said church leaders should always remember that they were called to
serve and provide sufficient information about Christian values.
And in his sermon, Rock of hope Overseer, Bishop Boniface Shonga said that the Christian journey called for continuity despite the many challenges citizens might go through.
Among the church leaders who were ordained included three pastors, James Bowa who is also Kabwe mayor chaplain, Muzionele Manda and Fred Mukubesa while deacons included Richard Mwansa, Rita Mutale and Elizabeth Chunga and Mr. David Simwanza was ordained as a social worker.

Councillor Musonda should also pray for Mr. Rupiah Banda to stop insulting defenceless people at rallies. It is not true that the Post is insultin the leaders. It is blue lie concoted by pseudo MMD (hard core Unip). When did calling a spade a spade amount to insulting? If an elderly person is not conducting himself like his age then bad words will be used to describe him.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR. IT’S TRUE THAT WE ARE LOSING OUR CULTURE VERY VERY FAST IN THE NAME OF GLOBALISATION AND FREE MARKET ECONOMY. I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT ONE WOULD GET BACK AFTER INSULTING. I MEAN, CAN’T WE TALK IN A NORMAL WAY? WHY SHOULD WE ALWAYS INSULT WHEN GIVING ADVICE TO PIPO? PLZ WE NEED TO PRESERVE OUR CULTURE.
I agree with Mayor Musonda on the new culture of insulting leaders. This will not stop for as long as leaders spend most of their time mudslinging or outdoing each other at the expense developmental issues. It appears our leaders never settle down to strategise on real burning issues. Its RB has done this , Sata has done HH has or did this and that the cycle keeps. This is worsened by some quarters of the private media who write anything using insulting language. days are gone when respect was accorded to elders in society. Its unfortunate this whole subject has come about coz od democray. Major players are in the forefront promoting insulting leaders. Look at our ladies way of dressing, under age drikinh heavily day in night out. We need to do alot to rectify the situation before wosening
Leaders must not be insulted by any one, also no one diserves to be insulted, but our leaders must demonstrate all qualities that they should have . because leaders are voted into office by the same people who want them to deliver.. infact leaders campain to be voted for hence they shouldnt disapoint those who voted for them to be in power..
Bwana Mayor! in case you want to pretend you do not see and hear what the so-called leaders do, please better keep quiet and continue dancing at the airports. The politicians we have today do not deserve any degree of respect. That is the more reason they are insulted. If they want to be respected, they must work very hard to cultivate that culture of being honest in their dealings
I don’t condone insulting. However, one can not help and observe some of these leaders insult the Zambian people when they are corrupt and do not want to be accountable. You earn respect young or old…Sometimes these corrupt leaders are even praised by churches getting people confused on the commandment ” Do not steal”
