Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale has disclosed that government, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) will cover all funeral expenses for the five people who died in the accident along the Kafue-Mazabuka road on Wednesday.
Dr. Hamukale said government is deeply saddened with the loss of lives and has since conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
He said at a media briefing in Choma today that government is concerned with motorists who are in the habit over-speeding on the newly rehabilitated road.
He has since advised road users to be more responsible especially during the festive season in order to safeguard lives.

Whilst this is a good gesture how do you pick and choose which RTA funerals to pay for?
@Carlos – Your observation is very correct. I was also wondering why being selective in footing bills for RTSA funerals.
I THINK THIS IS MORE OF A POLITICAL MILEAGE THAT EXPRESSING SYMPATHY TO VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES. KAFUE-MAZABUKA IS A UPND STRONGHOLD AND IT IS ONLY WISE FOR PF TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR CARE WHEN SUCH OPPORTUNITIES PRESENT THEMSELVES. SOME VOTES WILL BE WON BY THIS DEED.
IF THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN CHIPATA I AM SURE THIS GESTURE WAS NOT GOING TO BE ACCORDED TO THE VICTIMS FOR TWO REASONS:
1). EASTERN IS A STRONGHOLD FOR PF.
2). THE PRESIDENT WOULD NOT LIKE PEOPLE TO START GOSSIPING THAT HE IS ONLY HELPING HIS TRIBESMEN.

Why not focus on making roads safe? I completely agree with Carlos about move being a good gesture but aside from how you choose what funerals they pay for, is this really what the disaster funds were meant for? We have such inept leaders with no capacity to think, running a country kwati kubuta. It’s very sad, make roads safe and you will reduce the number of casualties related to accidents

Govt should focus on policy ..why on earth do people take out insurance for such events..if people are speeding mount speed cameras there
