Zesco United defender David Owino is likely to make his competitive return after a lengthy injury layoff in this weekend’s away clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
Owino has been out of action since December 4 when he limped off in Zesco’s 3-0 home win over AS Sonidep of Niger in the CAF Champions League preliminary round at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco CEO Richard Mulenga said it was great to see Owino back in training at the same time that defender Marcel Kalonda was available for the final leg after missing Sunday’s 3-1 home win over Chiefs at Levy Stadium while he served a one -match suspension after accruing two yellow cards.
“David has just started training so we hope our two center halves, David and Marcel, will play in South Africa,” Mulenga said.
And in the match against Chiefs, Clement Mwape and midfielder Anthony Akumu were deployed to Zesco’s central defence.
“As you saw, our defence was makeshift. However, I would like to commend those that stepped in when they were called upon; Clement did a fantastic job, Anthony always steps in when we have a problem in the central defence. I think they both played well and kept Chiefs at bay,” Mulenga said.
Meanwhile, midfielder Enock Sabamukama, who missed the Chiefs game after sustaining an injury at training on the eve of the match, should be fit for Thursday’s trip to Johannesburg.
Chiefs will host Zesco on January 19 in a 20h00 kickoff at FNB Stadium.

Read my comment. Zesco is professional team. Nkana is like Simba, typical comboni teams, most games are only watched by riot police. They even beat referees. Zesco can’t attack a referee.
