President Edgar Lungu says government remains resolute to ensure that it records an improvement in the country’s education sector.

President Lungu says there is urgent need to improve human capacity in the country, because it plays a pivotal role in the social and economic growth of the economy.

The Head of State explained that this can be done through enhancing the formal and informal education systems in the country.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Acting President Inonge Wina during the official opening of the Education Conference in Lusaka this morning.

President Lungu underscored that his government remains keen to improving quality and access to education, for all, through platforms such as the co-hosted education conference that aims at critically analysing the education system in Zambia.

He disclosed that government has recorded a number of successes in the education sector, such as the establishment of early childhood education in 2012.

President Lungu also cited improving the quality of infrastructure in schools, and the introduction of student loans, as some of the major achievements.

“Government has made strides in improving the quality and access to education for all in our country.as a pro-poor government, will have an increased number of universities and also establish the Higher Education Authority to oversee higher institutes of learning,” he stressed.

Speaking ealier, Minister of General Education David Mabumba said Zambia’s education sector has evolved over the years in order to better the quality and access to education for all.

Mr Mabumba has revealed that the conference will explore ways and mechanisms to further improve the quality and access of education.

The three day conference which runs from January 15-18th, under the theme” Improving the quality of Zambia’s education sector, the education we want”.

  1. Where the president? Gogo Inonge has been acting for about 1week now.

How long does a medical checkup take? Is the president sick.

    • Given Lubinda, with his certificate in Agriculture from NRDC is the most least qualified minster if Justice in the history of Zambia. That is Edgar for you, truly clueless on appointments

  2. Education can be improved if the government makes a massive investments in it. Without investment,it will just be a rhetoric. Our words should to be accompanied with pragmatism. It will be folly to think that education will be improved without proper investments. Education needs proper allocation of financial resources in the budget. Most of the budget allocation goes towards political activities. Look at the allocation in the budget for research and development at our highest institution of learning? It nothing to write home about. This has resulted in most intellectuals leaving the country to other countries where there skills will be appreciated. The nation needs to have robust investment in education both basic and textually for it to advance. An ignorant nation is a dead nation.
