Zambia bans the importation of meat products from South Africa

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Southern Province has revealed that measures have been in place to ensure that the ban on the importation of Livestock and meat products from South Africa is effected.

Southern Province Veterinary Officer Muzumbwe Kanemanema confirmed this in an interview with the National Agricultural Information Services (NAIS) in Choma today.

Dr Kanemanema revealed that officers at the border posts are alert and checking for the illegal importation of livestock and meat products, following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

He said checkpoints have been mounted at the Kazungula-Botswana, Livingstone-Zimbabwe and Chirundu border posts.

Dr Kanemanema stressed that any goods being brought into the country will be filtered at the Kafue-bridge checkpoint.

Recently, Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Kampamba Mulenga-Chewe banned the importation of livestock and meat products from South Africa following an outbreak of the foot and mouth disease in Limpopo Province.

    Those South African are quick to ban Zambian products.

    Keep them out for as long as possible and give locals tax breaks to solidify

  2. How about Kariba/Siavonga border? It means people can pass freely. You need sniffer dogs to detect hidden meat and meat products.

    • Zambian borders are porous. Produce from SA can easily enter through LUANGWA DISTRICT BORDER, PETAUKE, CHADIZA, VUBWI etc.
