Kunda to launch TV2 today

Share

All is set for the official launch of Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) new Television channel Two (Tv2) today, January 15, 2009.

Vice President George Kunda is expected to commission the new national TV channel on behalf of President Rupiah Banda.

ZNBC Public Relation Manager Mirriam Tonga confirmed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.

Ms. Tonga said the opening of the new TV channel is part of the Corporation’s commitment to give both the listeners and viewers an improved programming and provide a variety of content.

Ms Tonga noted the new channel is also expected to give the audience an expanded coverage and compete effectively in the modern broadcasting era.

She further said the new channel prepares Zambia to migrate from manual to digital transmission before 2012 like other countries in the Southern region that have already gone digital.

According to Ms. Tonga, ZNBC’s stance is to retain audience market leadership in all platforms in radio and television thereby giving the listeners and viewers a greater choice to tune to.

Tv2 the second television channel for ZNBC will be a 24-hour entertainment channel with a news segment.

  1. I see no reason for for launching a new channel if improvements can’t even be made on the current one. By the way, is that slogan of ‘This is Television Zambia, Tansmitting from Lusaka’ Still being said in between each program?

  2. No need for the second propaganda channel. The present TV has failed to meet people’s expectations. That’s share waste of resources. Where is the ‘Better TV’? ‘When you pay it will show’… Zedians are not very serious with what ever they are doing. Ati intertainment??? Atase

  3. Iwe chi Capitalist kabiye uko! There is definately something wrong. The examples you have mentioned above have content, and that is something lacking with your ZNBC1 whatever you want to call it.

  4. Ba CApitalist naimwe, nama humble yabu puba. You and I know that the first is as miserable as watching mould grow on cheese. So why put resources in a second channel when you cant even fix the first one?

  5. Mr Capitalist # 3 SABC has 3 channels and each channel has a target market and has a theme. For instance the market for SABC3 is a lifestyle channel and is made to sustain itself in terms of revenue. SABC 2 is an educational channel and incorporates other languages. SABC 1 is targeted at the youth, entertainment and most content is local. I thought may be i should enlighten you so that you can have more infomation then maybe you might contribute on something you have an idea about

  6. nothing wrong with having a second channel, what we should now demand for is quality programmes. may b a 2nd outlet 24 hrs for that matter will give znbc chance to bring in a variety of programmes that will cater for everyone. lets us give znbc a benefit of doubt. my only main worry is GRZ interference which to a large extent is to blame for poor things we see on znbc.

  7. #5 Mr Capitalist, This is what is wrong,
    1. ZNBC1 does not show any movies, all we have are soaps (call them what suits your language) and not everyone has the time to sit everyday to follow them.
    2. ZNBC1 has no professionalism, e.g one item is mentioned on news a totally different caption is shown
    3. Coverage is very biased. This is not a partisan broadcasting station, we pay compulsory 3 pins which i believe even you can’t pay if it was voluntary.
    4. No vision. Everyone knew in January AFCON is starting, a week before they are looking for K10bn
    5. They don’t have the capacity to filter adverts, so we see all sorts of them (unprofessionally done)
    6. The only entertainment shows are meant for young audiencies (musical shows) and are mostly indecent.
Lets see how ZNBC2 will work

  8. I guess ZNBC news Segments will also go like ” President RB this, President RB that…” This is why corporates do no buy airtime from ZNBC. Could this be an attempt to divert people’s attention from other private media with 2011 looming? Failed attempt Mr Capitalist!!

  9. The Moderator is very right and I see a lot of sense in his contribution and so is Ibange Libi. Both your contributions are very objective. We were assured that when we pay it will show but honestly what has shown so far is pathetic and I have since stoped watching ZNBC. For sure, Capitalist, you mean you haven’t seen what is wrong?

  10. ibange libi

Thanks for the somewhat balanced response. I am to the assumption that ZNBC with its new TV2 will somewhat operate in a similar manner.

The channel is not yet in operation and already people have a prejudged opinion. That is unpatriotic in my opinion.

  11. # 1, I agree with you what is it that will be aired on TV2? TV1 does not even have the capacity to satisfy viewers. Hey this a rat race. they should even start their improvemnet on TV 1. Is ZNBC TV on HD? What languages will be on TV 2 i know sabc 1 is for local languages and i hope ZNBC will be able to cater for the locals. Again in Zambia we feel speaking local language is being backwards kaya lets wait and see. MP visits his constituency and speaks in English to whom? Malabishi……

  12. Ok this is what you should expect on TV2 news…..Head line President Rupia Banda Commisions Luanshya Mine….Before he comisioned he said….earlier on he revealed that….speaking before Luanshya Mayor the president highlightened……end of 1st segment kaya……i cant remeber the last time i saw Zuma on SABC or E-TV news…

  13. The difference with SABC and ZNBC is that SABC is a public broadcaster whereas ZNBC is a state broadcaster, let us not just copy things for the sake of copying. Just like IBANGE LIBI outlined ZNBC needs a structure. SABC 3 is a commercial channel and attracts audiences that in a high income bracket, it therefore makes its own revenue. the best ZNBC would have done was to go 24 hours. when loyalty has been established then a second channel should have been brought in.

  14. Bane, maybe, just maybe having a second channel will give us some fresh air. Probably they want to maintain ZNBC 1 as a propaganda channel and give us some relief on ZNBC 2 by showing ifyamano like movies (not Kabanana, Banja etc), Sports (not Inter company relay), Fashion (not Thandie), Fitness (not RB in Swaziland), etc. Katwishi, i dont know. The problem on the other hand is that it still remains a state mouth piece ans so i would not be surprised if they began showing (in Big Brother style) Rb and Thandie in state house discussing Dora.

  15. hahahhahahahahah Tv 2 this is rabishi this guys are failing to televise soccer from chililabombwe them you are thinking of putting tv 2 anyway let me not say too much coz i dont watch ZNBC full of ripia banda Viva SurperSport the Home of Soccer

  16. Instead of improving content on ZNBC1 which is full of MMD rubbish , they go to make another channel to diseminate MMD nonsense…NALEKA!!!

  17. #14 Chikumbutso

Mune Walasa!! What is the use of speaking in English at a function when 95% of the people could do with a local langauage? Infact most of our citizens actually react to info when an interpreter speaks. I wonder why we are so bent on speaking foregn languages. Should take a leaf from Msamzi or the Tswana – really proud of their langauages!!!

  18. #16, SAMANTHA MUMBA :

I hear you sis! Ya, why not try the 24 hour format first and see how that works out. You want to start a separate channel when you can’t even come up with sensible programming to fill a paltry 24 hr period!!

“You can put lipstick on pig, it is still gonna be a pig,” so the saying goes. Ati Tv2; if the content on this new channel mirrors that of the current c.r.a.p on ZNBC Tv (boring and full of govt propaganda,) it is not going to work—-GOOD LUCK THOUGH.

  19. What is wrong with word “P.I.G” (as in ‘Inkumba’ the source of Bacon), ba LT?

Anyway, I MEANT TO SAY: “You can put lipstick on p.i.g, it is still gonna be a p.i.g,” Your filters are moody!!!!!

  20. Orgasm # 20
True to that we Zambians are ashamed of our languages. We feel so proud speaking broken English. Alas TV2

  21. #5, 13,Mr Capitalist,
The main difference between ZNBC TV and other progressive TV stations is that ZNBC TV belongs to the president and his ministers.

  22. No improvement if the same trash will be broad cast. I smell a rat here- trying to under cut the private media? 1) Funding the media,2) New station?

  23. Zambians need to learn to be serious. ZNBC TV is providing poor services, and at the same time you want to provide another station ? Wow, that is great. That is too much for you. Take one thing at a time, if you are failing to take care of one child, do you think it is wise to have a second one and expect him to be better ? Be real people.
