It will be suicidal to vote using current eletoral laws – Milupi

Independent Luena Member of Parliament Charles Milupi says it will be suicidal for Zambia to go to the general elections under the current electoral laws.

Zambia is scheduled to hold its next presidential, parliamentary and local government elections next year.

Mr Milupi who has since formed a new party called Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD)said the current electoral act No.12 of 2006 and the electoral code of conduct could not to guarantee free, transparent, and credible elections.

He says the current laws leave room for manipulation hence the need to revisit them before the elections.

Mr. Milupi says if the national does not have a new constitution before next year elections, the electoral act should be looked at.

He further wonders why government has saddenly decided to appoint electoral commission of Zambia commissioner from one province.

Mr Milupi has since called on Zambians to ensure that they pressure government to put in place electoral laws that would guarantee a free and fair election.

  1. Good Morning

Was Mr. Milupi not among the NCC delegates when they were reviewing the electoral laws? Why did he not raise this point then?

  2. #1, this guy has lost a sense of direction. We must not mind him. sometimes and has good views but nowawdays, see for yourself. My advise the our people is that we dont give attention to these briefcase Parties becouse they are just meant to fragment the votes. He does not stand for anything thats why he is an independent member of parliamen. As such, we can not entertain people for stand for nothing. He is on the fence! Zambians through the PACT are uniting and that when he is fooled by the MMD to form a party. The guy has no political following. I dont think his wife and kids have even endorsed his party. We are done with time wasters. Now is the time for uniting. Divided, we fall.

  3. 2# Free at last. thanks for the comments agree with you. In fact now that he has formed his party his seat must be vacant since he stood on independent ticket so that the Pact can crumble it from him before 2011.

  4. 4 Sorry he will not let go of his MP position. Kulimadyelelo ku parley. That is why he has denied being the founder or is it owner of the new party. One leg here another there. Just the sort of politicians that Zambia can do without. 50%+1 vote but these are the same people who cause the split in votes, by forming many parties instead of uniting, and all us are expected to do their bidding for president, what cheek!

  5. #1 The NCC has already proposed changes to the electroral act but this will depend on the the new constitution coming into effect. In case of no new constitution Mr Milupi is proposing that the electroral act must be ammended. This is a good idea because the current act has a lot of flaws so you can not have free and fair election
