Advertising medical drugs is illegal- Mwaanga

Government says the advertising of medical drugs is illegal and that all claims of a cure for an ailment need to be scientifically verified before a public announcement can be made.

In a Press statement issued to ZANIS this evening, Chief Government spokesman Vernon
Mwaanga said various claims being made on the AIDS cure are threatening national
security, as they are likely to derail the measures that government has put in place
for the control of HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Mwaanga who is also Minister of Information and Braodcasting Services urged all
citizens not to use any drug before it is registered by the government through the
pharmaceutical regulatory authority.

He noted that government has a duty to protect citizens from unscrupulous
individuals who are making unsubstantiated claims of medical findings.

He said the unsubstantiated claims of medical findings have great potential to
injure the lives of innocent and unsuspecting Zambians.
