Chanda Chimba reports Sata threats to police

Share

PBJ Productions chief executive officer and ‘Stand up for Zambia’ producer Chanda Chimba (III) has reported Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata to police for threats on his life that he says he has been receiving from various people, including Mr Sata.

But Mr Sata has denied ever issuing threats to Mr Chimba, saying he only called the television producer challenging him to give him an opportunity to respond to the various allegations he had raised against him in his documentary dubbed ‘The Way I See Things’.

Mr Chimba also revealed in an interview yesterday that Lusaka lawyer Mutembo Nchito, Post newspaper editor-in-chief Fred M’membe and The Post had sued him as the second respondent together with Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and MUVI television for defamation.

He said the PF leader called him on June 16 around 10:50 hours and told him that he would deal with him appropriately for producing the documentaries.

“I can confirm that I have been receiving threats over the documentaries I have been producing.

“For instance on June 16, I received a call from Mr Sata who told me that he was going to deal with me appropriately,” he said.

Mr Chimba said he hang up the phone on Mr Sata because he did not think that a person aspiring to be Republican president could speak to him in the manner he did.

“Around 11:18 hours Mr Sata sent me a message which said: “Mr Chimba, thank you very much for your efforts.

“Your so-called documentary is in the hands of a private radio station and has been passed on to me. Keep it up. M.C Sata.”

He said he decided to report the matter to the police because Mr Sata’s remarks were not ordinary words.

“I know that all these things are meant to slow me down and intimidate me but I can tell you that I will not be intimidated by anyone,” he said.

Lusaka Province police chief Greenwell Ng’uni said he could neither confirm nor deny the report.

“We do not want to be dragged into politics,” Mr Ng’uni said.
But when contacted for a comment, Mr Sata wondered why Mr Chimba was bringing up the matter this time.

“The problem is that it seems all the people associated with MMD are reacting in arrears. They are reacting in the past tense.

“I didn’t send the bailiffs to go and grab his goods. What I told Mr Chimba was that you have made so many allegations against me, can you arrange a two-hour interview so that I can respond, so that I can deal with you on the programme,” he said.

Mr Sata said on the material day, he also called former acting ZNBC director-general Juliana Mwila challenging her to arrange a television interview so that he could respond to the issues raised in Mr Chimba’s documentaries.

Mr Chimba revealed that The Post newspapers had sued him and was claiming K5 billion for defamation of character arising from the documentaries.

Mr Chimba also wondered how The Post got exchanges between him and the bailiffs.
“The gentlemen that came were two and they claimed that they were bailiffs, so I wonder how they got those exchanges, it’s either one of them was impersonating,” he said.

Bailiffs on Thursday pounced on Mr Chimba and grabbed an assortment of household goods worth more than K15 million owed to a Lusaka business person, Kaluba Chanshi.

  1. be strong chanda you are fighting a just cause and membe has realised this thats why he is telling of the useless pact. sata and hh are doomed just read todays post lead story

  2. Chanda Chimba III ( Wioever was the first and second ) just concentrate on getting your sofas back from the Bailiffs !

  3. I would be embarassed if I were you, bakamba. Uku poka salaula, ka!!! But then, I am not you “Keep it up”.:o

  4. “I will deal with him appropriately.” Iwe CC3 where is the threat here? He most likely meant that he would sue for defamation. Chizungu ni chizungu, yaba. Mwaona kuthabila pa window ku sukulu.

  5. Chanda ama glass yapali TV stand nayatobeka man! Define ‘threats’ before you embarrass thyself in public.

  6. Chanda Chimba is doing great job to expose the incompetence of Mr Sata. Why is Sata refusing to be put under the spotlight of the press? It seems that Mr Chimba is winning “the war of perception”. On the other hand Mr Greenwell Nguni should be a sensible policeman. His men must provide 24hr protection for Mr Chimba and anyone else whose life is in danger from political thugs. Mr Nguni is behaving as though he doesn’t know how PF works when it comes to electoral conduct. PF cadres caused lot of damage during the mufumbwe by election. Even FTJ, a former head of state is being hounded by PF cadres every time he visits the copper belt. It’s naive for Mr Nguni to think that a political party whose roots are imbedded in manipulation and dark arts of Zambian politics can be trusted.

  7. I support you Bana K; let Chanda Chimba the third take these goons on. Since when has the Post and Sata given the people they defame chance to say their side of the story? They’ve trashed and gutted people and institutions with impunity and now the boot is on the other foot, they start to dance on a pin head!

  8. Chanda Chimba is right to report to the POLICE who ever is threatening him. However, from the main evidence of the sms from Mr. Sata, there is no evidence of threats. It’s an exercise in futility by Chanda he will fail to prove threats based on that SMS. Now for Mr. Sata, he was very right to demand to be heard against the numerous un-balanced stories peddled by Chanda. The Post & Mutembo have jointly sued Chanda for defarmation and claiming Billions off him! Well even Chanda’s backers the MMD will distance themselves from him now. Chanda is in very big trouble. If bailifs can grab his glass ware for failure to settle K15m debt, this shows Chanda has been used/abused by MMD & will regret his foolishness. He shall lose against the post & Mutembo & will lose badly.

  9. I NEVER THOUGHT THOSE THINGS COULD COME FROM AN MMD BOOTLICKER/JOB SEEKER LIKE CHANDA.HE IS EVEN FAILING TO HONOUR A BUSINESS TRANSACTION THAT TOOK PLACE MONTHS AGO.I THINK HE SHOULD PUT MORE OF HIS EFFORTS IN GETTING HIS THINKS BACK AND STOP BRAGGING ABOUT UNFOUNDED DEATH THREATS.

  10. Who in their right mind would go to the trouble of wanting to kill chanda chimba? I mean, he is DEAD as it is!

  11. Bana Kizeli #7 your contribution lacks substance and is far fetched to say the least. Mufumbwe and PF? What about IG Kabonde? And who camped there for 3 weeks? Who was in Milanzi going around schools, churches and takin pics with “Nyawu” ? You can hate the characters but don’t misconstrue facts.

  12. Chanda Chimba uwa chitatu- you are simply a coward. You have started a fight that you cant seemingly finish considering how shaken you are from your statements. Is MNB & The Post suing you and Michael Sata demanding a 2hr interview in defense of your allegations through your documentary a death threat to you. If you wanna show us the real man in you dance to the music you started. Micheal Sata has been a public figure for long. So for starters you have a jump start and can start punching holes. So don’t be a COWARD!

  13. its good the differeces in the pact have emerged early so that it gives PF and UPND to work on there differences in bemba we say “apali imiti tashibula ku kwesana”on ba chanda chimba the whatever ba mudala please ubufi tabulisha may be you want our generous president Mr Sata to bail you out of your kaloba wa kongwele tulelipi fye ze bigge

  14. Chimba is not being professional from the way he has been presenting his so called documentaries. Its like he has been hired and paid by MMD to “make noise”

  15. Mr. CC3 it is not an offence to threaten someone, thats why the police have not reacted. Remember the Nawakwi issue regarding mmd cadres who threatened to gang r.a.p.e. her. The police said threatening is no offence.

  16. BA CHANDA, EVERYONE CAN SEE THROUGH YOUR DOCUMENTARIES THAT YOU ARE HIRED TO DISCREDIT THE OPPOSITION PARTIES ESPECIALLY UPND / PF PACT WHICH IS A THREAT TO THE RULING PART AND THE POST WHICH IS CRITICAL OF GOVERNMENT POLICIES. THIS WILL NOT WORK PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY MADE UP THEIR MINDS TO HAVE A NEW GOVERNMENT COME 2011

  17. Chanda Chimba uli muwelewele uwapulamo, it’s like the people who give you that work did not remind you of the consequences. You will never change anything, shame on you!!!!!

  18. the truth will always be the truth nothing can change that. Chanda tell whoever has hired you that you can’t perform and why did you discredit yourself to these politician you are cheap man.

  19. UPND have declared POST enemy number 1..so they might be sponsoring Chanda 3rd given he until now was PF…Let Post get taste of own medicine…

  20. Chanda Chimba has destroyed himself. His documentaries are unprofessional. Anyway what do you expect where issues of bread and butter are concerned? Sacrificing intergrity for a morsel of bread. what a shame!
