Rufunsa to get a Girls Technical High School

Construction of a Technical High School in Rufunsa area in Chongwe District is nearing completion.

And Rufunsa still needs at least two more high schools to prevent pupils from walking long distances to school.

Rufunsa Member of Parliament (MP) Kenneth Chipungu disclosed that the school would be completed next month after painting the building.

Mr. Chipungu disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today and commended government for attaching importance to the education sector especially educating the girl-child.

The MP said there had been no high school in the area since Independence.

And Mr Chipungu said Rufunsa needs two more high schools to be constructed in Lukwipa and Shikabeta areas.

He lamented that Lukwipa and Shikabeta areas though densely populated were over 100 kilometres apart hence the need to build additional learning institutions at Rufunsa.

He explained that Grade 10 pupils were reffered to Chongwe, Katondwe and Luangwa High Schools respectively.

The MP said with the coming of the higher learning institution in Rufunsa, parents would be encouraged to take their children to school.

Mr. Chipungu, who is also Sport, Youth and Child Development Minister said Government was on track in attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on quality education.

The Minister said it is also Government’s intention to construct a boys technical High school in the area.

  1. Why is it that only MMD held constituencies are having this kind of development?
Surely, government should be for every body! Should it not? I have never heard of Dr Guy Scott opening something in his constituency, funded by government.

  2. “And Rufunsa still needs at least two more high schools to prevent pupils from walking long distances to school.”

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to have a school bus service. I think that would offset the need to have 2 more new high schools being built. Other constituencies need these schools. Can we be innovative please. A school bus service (free-of-charge) would suffice.
