Kachimba calls for decent work

Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister Simon Kachimba

Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister Simon Kachimba has called on employers in the country to ensure that they promote a decent working culture for their employees.

Mr. Kachimba noted that while government has put in place investment and economic policies meant to create employment, such jobs should be decent.

Speaking in Chongwe today in a meeting with farm employers and farmers union, Mr. Kachimba advised employers to ensure that they are not in conflict with labour laws.

He also warned employers not to engage in cheap labour as it usually leads to child labour adding that such activities call for prosecution.

The Deputy Minister urged employers to treat workers as human assets or capital, as well as strategic partners in the expansion and growth of their respective organizations.

He, however, appealed to workers to exercise discipline at all costs and channel their grievances in a proper way.

And Chongwe District Commissioner Japhen Mwakalombe noted that any concerns of labour are of great importance to the nation.

  1. For saying something so true and developing the country a mile by his one statement, Simon Kachimba shall be moved to a ministry or foreign portfolio where he cannot gain political mileage or open Zambian eyes. Remember these words for that’s what our leaders do. They fear even the slight wind of accidental intelligence.

  2. Decent work starts with the Government themselves. These boffoons has put K260,000/- (US$52) per month, as a minimum wage! If any Chineese or Indian Investor pays K260,000/- per month, there still within the law! What laws will be broken because there just not there, it’s all a sham on these MMD boffoons.

  3. Mwata Shimo Kachimba, your statements are always gud but what happens next is nothing worth talking. You and your fellows have allowed KCM to out source manpower and keep on issuing work permits to foreigners to take up our jobs. Does it mean all those who got trained by then ZCCM have gone to the garves with their qualifications and experience. As for farm workers these are treated like semi-humans. They work from dawn to dust some without protective clothings. Local zambians are worse than foreign employers. Where are the laws of this country and why are they not being respected. This is the only country where labour laws are not being respected. During colonial days the labour officer used to wield a lot of authority. Very disappointing Austin Liato was a unionist but now he is useless.
